Celebrating a Wonderful Ministry and Retirement

Today we give thanks and celebrate as we mark the retirement of our much-loved minister, Rev. Ian Abraham.

For the last 8 years Ian has faithfully served The Temple and Armaghbreague with dedication, compassion, wisdom and grace. We are deeply grateful for the care he has shown to our church family, and the impact he has made on the life of our church.

We are also incredibly thankful for Florence who has quietly supported, encouraged and shared in the joys and challenges of us all. She too has been a valued and much-loved part of our church family and will be sorely missed.

As Ian and Florence begin this new chapter, we pray that retirement will bring plenty of time for rest, family, friendship and all the things they enjoy. May God continue to bless, guide and strengthen them in the years ahead.

Farewell to an old friend.

It was around 1996 as an assistant in Mourne that I bought a second-hand desk from a businessman who was a member of the congregation.

The table came with us when we moved in 1999 to Fivemiletown. It moved with us in 2004 to Crossgar, and in 2018 we brought it to Keady. For 30 years it has been a solid presence in the study.

I cannot guess the amount of time I have spent sitting at this desk: reading and praying, writing sermons, planning midweeks, devising children’s talks, preparing school assemblies, writing funeral tributes and wedding encouragements, as well as tending to the admin responsibilities ministry brings with it.

I’ll miss sitting at this table especially on a Saturday evening and early on Sunday morning whilst seeking to prepare myself to lead the people of God in worship on the Lord’s Day - and I am so thankful to the Lord and to Florence, Chloe, James,and Lois for having had the privilege and the opportunity to do so.

Please remember all our young people waiting on exam results tomorrow. Help them to know that true worth and identity do not come from a test score or grade. Whether exam results bring joy or disappointment, God's love remains constant, and He has a purposeful future for our life.

Proverbs 3:5-6: Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. He will make your paths straight.
