“Praying With New Purpose”
Written and Read by Pastor Sammy Davies
Inspired by 1 Peter 2:4-10

Lord Jesus
You, rejected by men
Yet chosen by God
Despised by the world
Yet precious in Your Father's sight
There is comfort
In knowing that heaven's verdict
Is not the same as earth's
For we
Far off, without mercy, without hope
Are brought near in You
You are the Living Stone
And are crafting us in Your likeness
The Chosen One
Calling a chosen people
The Precious Son
Gathering a treasured possession
How wonderful Your grace
That we who were not a people
In jesus are Your people
We who held no purpose
Now exist for Your own glory and praise
We are not merely recipients of Your mercy
We are called and commanded to make known Your majesty
Forgive us Lord
When we have tended to neglect Your kindess
And ingore your calling
Forgive us Lord
When we have celebrated lesser things
And made little of Him who made all things
Turn our eyes to You once again
To One who is precious
To One who lives
To One who’s existence puts in place all the boundaries for what is
Fill our mouths with Your praises
For this is why You have called us
Amen

A spoiled walk redeemed by the presence of good company (and some decent blue skies)

A fun morning out on the par 3s for some of the guys from our church this weekend.

“Praying for the Persecuted”
Written and Read by Pastor Sammy Davies
Inspired by 1 Peter

Lord Jesus, King of all
You know what it is to suffer
Not as an observer, from far away
But as One who was ridiculed, rejected and crucified
You, the very definition of righteousness
For us, in all our mess
To bring us to God
Might we expect something different?
As if in following You we would walk another path
The world has hated You; will it not hate those who follow after
Why should we be surprised when trials come
Why would we be afraid when opposition rises
When our faith in You becomes costly
Forgive us Lord Jesus,
For You have warned us in advance
These things are not proof of Your absence
These things are part of the journey from our death and into Your life
Today we remember
Our brothers and sisters across this world
Those insulted and imprisoned for the name of Christ
Those who must gather in secret
Today we remember
Those who have lost homes and livelihoods
Family and Freedoms
Strengthen them
Preserve them
Let them know the reality of all that is gained in You
When the hatred of others is before us
Remind us of the love that is ours in You
When all this world has abandoned us
Remind us of the belonging You have brought us into
When what we have is threatened
Remind us of the inheritance that can neither perish, spoil nor fade
Amen

“Praying on Trinity Sunday”
Written and Read by Pastor Sammy Davies
Inspired by 1 Peter 1:1-3 & the Triune God

In the beginning
You created
Heavens and earth
All that there is
Three, eternally united in love
In love, determined to create
Yet humanity, crowned within Your creation
Blessed with the capacity to love
We turned inward
Loving ourselves above our maker

What a sorrowful choice
A choice which brought misery, sadness and death
And yet, Your love would not let go
How wonderful
That the love at the centre of all things
Determined to make all things new
We who were strangers
Wanderers from life itself
Invited once more to know and be known
What a gift You have given Father
New birth
What a sacrifice You gave Eternal Son
Your own precious blood
What a work You have achieved Holy Spirit
Life from amongst the dead
Father, you have desired
Eternal Son, You have rescued
Holy Spirit, You have awakened
Those of us then
Who have been loved
Who know rescue & the indwelling of Your presence
Make us a people who reflect
The life and love
That has always existed in You
Amen
