All is revealed, or is it?

Once all the slate tiles had been removed the stonework of pyramid spire dating back to at least the 12 Century can now be seen, but there are more questions than answers, for instance, what was the original covering? When were the louvres added? That was a lot of weight added to the top of the tower! but these are questions that are now being looked at by the experts.

It’s Started ⚒️

The work to remove the slates from the top of the tower is now progressing, and we can start to see the stone tower emerging from beneath them.
The weather vein has defiantly seen better days, its another item that will need replacing, there is also the lightning protection system which will need to be done as well.
One of the things that is being looked at is what the tower would have looked like before the Victorians added the slates, perhaps it was like the tower at Penmon Priory, which would make sense as it was built around the same time, but we will have to wait to see.

𝗪𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗳𝘂𝗹 𝗡𝗲𝘄𝘀 ! 😃

St Eilian will receive a £31,796 grant from the National Churches Trust.
On the recommendation the church will also receive a £5,000 Wolfson Fabric Repair Grant from the Wolfson Foundation and a £2,000 grant from the Headley Trust.

This is matched funding grant, so we need to find an equal amount of money, to go towards the repair work to receive the grant. It will cover work that is scheduled for the second phase of the project, details to follow.

St Eilian Church remains open to the public throughout all the work and you are most welcome to drop in and take a look around the Church and enjoy its ancient history.

Were feeling a bit overwhelmed at the moment 🫣

After the wonderful day in spring where many people came to help plant the garden, after the removal of the trees on the land next door. We had a bumper spring with all that extra light hitting the ground and the wild flowers and weeds went mad, it was a wash of flours 🌼 However, the plants that were planted have been swamped, its like in the parable of the sower in Matthew,,, anyway, the new problem is that the weeds are now in seed and are getting ready to drop, which will make next year even worse.

So what to do next, weeding, thats hard when the ground is so dry, how about just going after all the seed heads and making some space for the plants, thats still a lot of work, the other issue is that its been so dry that the new plants are suffering badly and with no water supply on site, its difficult even trying to bring down containers of water to water just some of them.
