🎆SUNDAY MORNING SERVICE ( 14/06/26)
❇️Theme: Leading yourself well
📖Proverbs 25:28 - “Like a city whose walls are broken through is a person who lacks self-control.” — Book of Proverbs 25:28
🛑This verse is found in a section of Proverbs that contains practical wisdom for daily living. In ancient times, cities were protected by strong walls. These walls served as the primary defense against enemies, thieves, and invaders. A city without walls was vulnerable, exposed, and unable to protect its people or resources.
🛑Using this imagery, Solomon compares a person who lacks self-control to a city with broken walls. Just as an unprotected city could easily be conquered, a person without self-discipline becomes vulnerable to temptation, sin, harmful influences, and destructive decisions.
🛑The broader context of Proverbs emphasizes wisdom, discipline, godly character, and the fear of the Lord as foundations for a successful and righteous life
1. Self-Control Is Spiritual Protection
A person with self-control is guarded against many dangers.
* Control over words prevents conflict.
* Control over emotions prevents rash decisions.
* Control over desires prevents sin and regret.
Self-control acts like a protective wall around a believer’s life.
Related Scripture:
“Better a patient person than a warrior, one with self-control than one who takes a city.” (Proverbs 16:32)
2. Lack of Self-Control Creates Vulnerability
Without self-control, people become susceptible to:
* Temptation
* Anger
* Pride
* Lust
* Addiction
* Poor decision-making
The enemy often gains access where discipline is absent.
Related Scripture:
“Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.” (1 Peter 5:8)
3. Godly Leadership Begins with Self-Leadership
Before leading others, we must learn to lead ourselves.
A person who cannot govern their own thoughts, emotions, habits, and actions will struggle to effectively lead family, ministry, or community.
This truth connects well with the theme “Leading Yourself Well.”
4. Self-Control Is a Fruit of the Holy Spirit
Biblical self-control is not merely human willpower; it is produced by the Holy Spirit working in a believer’s life.
Related Scripture:
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.” (Galatians 5:22–23)
When we walk with God, He strengthens us to overcome sinful desires and live disciplined lives.
5. Strong Character Is Built Through Discipline
Just as city walls are built stone by stone, character is built through daily choices.
* Prayer
* Bible reading
* Obedience
* Accountability
* Wise decision-making
✅These spiritual disciplines strengthen the walls of our lives.
❇️Practical Application
Ask yourself:
* Do I control my words before I speak?
* Do I manage my emotions in difficult situations?
* Do I guard my thoughts and desires?
* Am I allowing the Holy Spirit to shape my character?
✅Strong leadership starts with strong self-control.
❇️Key Lesson
🛑Proverbs 25:28 teaches that self-control is essential for spiritual strength, personal integrity, and effective leadership. Just as city walls protect a city from attack, self-discipline protects a believer from temptation, failure, and spiritual defeat.
Thank you Lord for your word. It comes at the right time with a constant reminder of how to live a life that will bring glory to you! 🙏🙏🙏
