Amersham Quakers

Amersham Quakers Quakers believe in Truth, Simplicity, Peace and Equality originating from the Old and New Testaments. Quaker faith is a search for truth, not an arrival.

We meet for Worship on Sunday mornings at 11am. All are welcome. Please note, our Meetings are 'blended', connecting via Internet to Friends in Chiltern Area Quaker Meeting who are worshipping in their own homes. If you would like to join us via Zoom, please use this link:

This Women's History Month we are celebrating Margaret Fell.

She is known as the 'Mother of Quakerism', but she is also an elder sister to Christian feminism and the women's movement more broadly.

Find out more about Margaret Fell on the new podcast from Silver Wattle Quaker Centre and Quakers Australia here: https://www.silverwattle.org.au/introducing-early-quakers-ep3

Her best known written work, Women's Speaking Justified, is the first full length exegetical defence of women's public ministry in English.

Fell’s defence of women’s speaking and writing helped pave the way for later Quaker activists, including Anne Knight who produced the first leaflet calling for women to have the vote and Lucretia Mott who helped organise the 1848 Seneca Falls convention which launched the feminist movement in the USA.

Ahead of International Women's Day, Fell's best known work Women's Speaking Justified has been re-issued in modern English, with a foreword by FWCC https://fwcc.world/historic-case-for-womens-ministry-re-issued-in-updated-edition/

Last August, the Israeli government announced plans to revive the long‑frozen plans for the E1 settlement project — a move that would displace thousands of Palestinians including Bedouin communities whose herding‑based livelihoods are already under pressure.

Ecumenical Accompanier Daniel visited several of the communities affected and heard firsthand how their herding-based livelihoods are at risk of disappearing forever.
