Verse 8 of psalm 121 is like an all-encompassing prayer for all kinds of travel describing a God who is always there, ‘from now to eternity’. It was suggested that I write my own blessing for those who are travelling. You might like to have a go too.

Penny's prayer for Monday October 19th.
I was thankful on Sunday to be able to preach a sermon, part of which was a thank you for the generous regular gift that St Cuthbert's Church gives to the Church Army. Church Army is part of the Church of England, founded by Wilson Carlile in 1882. If you want to know more( and I hope you do) please go to churcharmy.org
The prayer today is the special prayer used to commemorate our founder. The picture shows a few of my Church Army collegues who would value your prayers.

From Penny. Being thankful for my lovely friends at St Cuthbert's Amble for marking the end of my opportunities to preach at the church. Thank you for a beautiful card ( an Yvonne special) and the clematis plant which will go in the garden. Thank you too for your engagement with what I had to say about the work of The Church Army and your concern for our work. This is only the end of a part of my ministry, Cafe Church and lots of other opportunities continue. And as I said Church Army Sisters die with their boots on.

Carollyn's Prayer for Sunday October 18th.
Those chief priests and senior men in the Temple are still wrestling with the parables in our reading today in Matthew chapter 22. They very unwisely ask Jesus a question trying to trick him.

We live in a world of conflict and division. The discordant voices of identity politics and the images of destruction in war zones are a constant reminder. A reading from St Paul's letter to the Galatians (5: verse 6) strikes home, in his time as it does in ours.

Linda continues to look at Psalm 121 on Wednesday October 14th.
Verses 5-8 appear to be spoken by a different person, someone reassuring the pilgrim. This is done by the repetition of the name of God and of the word for to keep/guard/watch over. This underlines and strengthens my feeling that God has everything in hand.

Sarah's Prayer for Tuesday 13th October
Today is the celebration of St Edward the Confessor who died in 1066 and whose death precipitated the Battle of Hastings and the conquering of England by William, Duke of Normandy. Towards the end of his life he became known for his acts of piety and charity.
