St Mungo's Parish Church Alloa

St Mungo's Parish Church Alloa Church of Scotland St. Mungo’s was historically the Parish Church of Alloa but is now one of two Church of Scotland Churches serving Alloa.

The present Church has been on this site for nearly 200 years, work being completed in 1819. The Church, the largest in Alloa, is one of the most important landmarks in the town and can accommodate most large and civic occasions. The Church’s Steeple towers above most buildings and can be seen from miles around. The interior, which can seat 700, has been frequently re-modelled over the years and c

urrently there are discussions underway on further alterations to the sanctuary to help meet modern day requirements.

Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, 'Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?' And I said, 'Here I am; send me!'

Here I am, Lord was written by American composer Dan Schutte in 1979 at the age of 31. He had been asked to compose music for a friend's deacon ordination Mass while studying at the Jesuit School of Theology at Berkley. The hymn was published in1981 in the collection 'Lord of Light' and it became one of the most widely sung modern liturgical hymns across both Catholic and Protestant denominations.

Hy 193 God is love, His the care
This hymn was written in 1925 by Percy Dearmer, English Anglican priest and liturgist. He wrote the words for both young and old to unite different generations in worship. The lyrics emphasise that God is defined by goodness, truth and beauty through the life and teachings of Jesus. It was written during the post World War 1 era when Percy had experienced personal grief including the loss of his first wife. He continued to concentrate on theology focused on divine care, human worth, and finding God in everyday things. He crafted the rhythm of the words to Personent Hodie a 14th to 16th century medieval carol tune originally published in 1582.

They came to Capernaum. When he was in the house, he asked them, "What were you arguing about on the road?" But they kept quiet because on the way they had argued about who was the greatest. Sitting down, Jesus called the Twelve and said, "Anyone who wants to be first must be the very last, and the servant of all." Amen
