We shared in a cafe church last Sunday. Captain Portia spoke about Pentecost and the ‘wizard behind the curtain’ - in the story of The Wizard of Oz, the characters are disappointed to find the wizard is just an ordinary man. Thankfully, our God isn’t like that and we can be filled with the Holy Spirit and enjoy the fullness of heaven through him, if we are ready to receive it.

Last Sunday, Captain Portia spoke on the theme of ‘fix your eyes on Jesus’ and Hebrews 12:1-3. In life, we sometimes hit a wall and can’t see a way through - while it could be easy to give up, the way will become clear if we turn to Jesus.

We also want to say a huge congratulations to Portia for becoming a captain! 🎊

We were delighted to welcome Kirsty as an adherent last Sunday! It’s great to have something so special to celebrate, and we shared cake after the meeting 🎊

Last Sunday, Lieutenant Portia looked at Jonah's calling and how he was given a second chance. We thought about our own callings, and how God gives us second chances and never gives up on us.

We also had a great game of ‘pin the tail on the whale’!

Last Sunday, Paula was commissioned as our Deputy Safeguarding Lead. We’re grateful for all the work she does to help with the running of the church.

Last Sunday, Heather spoke on Romans 8:28-37. These verses remind us that God is with us in both the good times and the bad, and that he will always see us through. He has a plan for all of us, helping us to grow spiritually and transforming us to be more like Jesus.

“What, then, shall we say in response to this? If God is for us, who can be against us?”

Last Sunday, Lieutenant Portia spoke on the theme of ‘a plan fulfilled’ and looked at Jeremiah 29:10-14. This passage promises prosperity and hope for the future, these blessings can be ours if we trust and believe in God’s plan for us.

We had a great time celebrating Easter last weekend, including a Churches in Abingdon service on Good Friday and our band playing outside our hall on Easter Sunday morning.

On this Good Friday, we hope you can take a moment to reflect while listening to our band play ‘Turn Your Eyes Toward Jesus’.

A prayer for Good Friday:

Dear God,

We remember today, the pain and suffering of the cross, and all that Jesus was willing to endure, so we could be set free. He paid the price, such a great sacrifice, to offer us the gift of eternal life.

Help us never to take for granted this huge gift of love on our behalf. Help us to be reminded of the cost of it all. Forgive us for being too busy, or distracted by other things, for not fully recognizing what you freely given, what you have done for us.

Thank you, Lord, that by your wounds we are healed. Thank you that because of your huge sacrifice we can live free. Thank you that sin and death have been conquered and that your Power is everlasting.

Thank you that we can say with great hope, “It is finished…” For we know what’s still to come. And death has lost its sting. We praise you for you are making all things new.

In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
