No sooner said than done

Our 2026 haylage is coming together nicely and ready to be wrapped. Quality forage starts long before winter arrives.

After a very hot walk around the farm and a close examination of our 2026 forage leys, assisted by the measuring stick (otherwise known as HUNTER 🐾), we’re now just days away from cutting and harvesting our winter feed for all the animals here at Church Farm.

It’s looking like it’s going to be a fantastic cut, with plenty of nutritional value packed into this year’s crop. The recent sunshine has certainly helped, and we’re looking forward to getting it safely harvested and stored ready for the months ahead.

A lot of hard work goes into producing quality forage, and it’s always rewarding to see it coming together. Here’s hoping the weather stays on our side for harvest!

Aldens have been supplying quality meat across Oxfordshire for generations, so we’re proud to now have our sustainably farmed venison available in store alongside their excellent range.

The first calf of the season arrived on Sunday evening
Always a special moment and the true sign that calving season has begun here at Church Farm.
Newborn deer are often born with a wet coat, as they arrive covered in fluids from birth. Their mums will quickly clean and dry them off, helping them stay warm and encouraging bonding in those important first moments.
For the first few days, calves spend most of their time tucked away quietly in long grass while mum feeds nearby, a natural instinct that helps keep them safe.
A lovely start to one of the busiest and most rewarding times of year on the farm.

Happy 1st Birthday to Dotty

One year ago, Dotty was a tiny abandoned calf needing bottle feeds and lots of extra care from the team here at Church Farm. Since then, she’s grown into a healthy young deer with the sweetest nature — and very much part of the family.

We’re incredibly proud of how far she’s come
