Thank you Hutton & Lesley

Last Thursday, 23rd June 2022, our Minister, Rev Hutton Steel, celebrated 40 years in Ministry, 40 years since his induction as the Minister in Alva Parish Church. Since then he, and Lesley (his much better half!) have served the folk around him, his churches, and the wider Kirk, tirelessly. So today in High Hilton, we took the opportunity to say a hopelessly inadequate "thank you" to Hutton and Lesley with a wee flower and a huge cake!

Saint George’s Tillydrone Church – Update

A couple of Sundays ago there was a vote taken by the congregation of Saint George’s and, at the same time, the congregation of St Machar’s, regarding the two churches coming together – in Church of Scotland terms, a union. Both votes were unanimously in favour of the union, and on Saturday 25th June the Presbytery of Aberdeen and Shetland (“the Presbytery” will be asked to agree that the union proceeds.

Assuming that there’s no hiccups at the Presbytery meeting, the outline timetable from now is:

Fortnightly worship services continue every other Sunday at 11:15am
- Sunday 26th June,
- Sunday 10th July, Sunday 24th July,
- Sunday 7th August, Sunday 21st August
- Sunday 4th September, Sunday 18th September

- Saturday 24 September – Saint George’s closing event – details to be announced
- Sunday 25 September – Saint George’s last Sunday worship service
- Monday 3 October – union becomes effective
- Sunday 9 October – first Sunday service of the new united charge held in the cathedral

Details of St Machar’s dates will posted on their website

There is a special service of union by the Presbytery to be held, and the date for that will be posted when confirmed.

We’ll continue to post updates here.

Today the Congregation of St. George's Church presented me with these lovely gifts. After 26 year at this beautiful church I am moving on. Along with these gifts, Aileen received a beautiful bouquet of flowers. As St. George's moves on and will be uniting in the near future with another Congregation I wish them the very best. To the Kirk Session and every member of the Congregation, thank you from the bottom of my heart.
