PRAYER TOPICS
Peace in the World Pray that peace may come to places affected by war and violence and that those who suffer may find safety and hope.
God’s Goodness Pray that we may recognise God’s goodness and give thanks for the blessings we receive each day.
Those in Need of Care and Support. Pray that those who are unwell, grieving, lonely or struggling may find comfort, hope and support.

MEDITATION
“Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”1 Thessalonians 5:18: As autumn arrives, we see the beauty of God's creation in the changing colours of the leaves, the richness of the harvest, and the gentle rhythm of the seasons. Yet autumn also reminds us that life is a journey of change, and that every season has its own gifts.
Thanksgiving invites us to pause and recognise God's goodness in our lives. We give thanks not only for the abundance of the harvest, but also for the people who walk beside us, the love we receive, the strength we find in difficult times, and the hope that sustains us. The Apostle Paul reminds us in 1 Thessalonians 5:18: “Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”
Being thankful does not mean that everything in life is easy or perfect. Rather, it means trusting that God is with us in every season — in times of joy and sorrow, abundance and uncertainty. As we enjoy the beauty of autumn, may we cultivate grateful hearts, share what we have with others, and recognise the many blessings, both great and small, that God gives us each day.

Aberdeen Springfield Church News for Sunday 18th October 2026:

Monday morning – Cyrenians collection from 10 – 11 a.m. There will also be a Fairtrade stall and Jean’s Jams.

The Seniors Cinema Afternoons start again on the 3rd Wednesday of each month from October to March at 2.00pm in the church hall. The first film will be on 21 October and will be ‘Saving Mr Banks’, the true story of the making of the Mary Poppins film after a 20 year struggle to obtain the rights from the uncompromising British author. We look forward to meeting you all again soon.

The next Bible Study will be held on Wednesday. 28th October at 7.30 in the vestry.

Coffee Chat & Companionship (C.C.C.) the fourth Wednesday of every month. The group is open to everyone whatever their age who enjoy meeting others over a coffee, for some company and a chat. Douglas Lounge at Springfield Church, where you will be made most welcome". Next meeting on Wednesday 28th October at 2.30 p.m.

Light in the darkness On Saturday 31 October, congregations, presbyteries and small groups across the Church of Scotland are invited to come together for an hour of prayer, praying for the light of Jesus to transform our Church, our communities across Scotland, and the places around the world where the Church worships and serves. Aberdeen Springfield Church will be participating - from 11 -12 noon in the Sanctuary. If you would like to be involved, please contact the Church Office. Or you are welcome to come along and listen.

Aberdeen Springfield Church News for Sunday 11th October 2026:

The Guild meet in the Church Hall on Wednesday 14th October at 2 p.m. when Matthew Philip will tell us about his recent visit to Malawi. All welcome.

The Bible Study will be held this Wednesday. 14th October at 7.30 in the vestry. The theme is ‘Gods Blessing’ and the readings are Hebrew 11:17-20, Genesis 27:1-40.

PRAYER TOPICS
Prayer for Victims of Floods Pray that God will protect those affected by floods, provide shelter and basic needs, and strengthen families as they recover.
Prayer for Peace in the World Pray that God will bring peace to places affected by conflict, comfort those who are suffering and guide leaders toward peaceful solutions.
Harvest Thanksgiving Prayer. Pray that we will thank God for His provisions, bless the fruits of our labour and remember those in need by sharing with others.
MEDITATION
God is working on our behalf.
God brought order out of chaos (Genesis 1:1–4) And it “was good!” Even when your life may seem a jumbled mess, God can bring order to help life make sense! For ‘All things work together to make good’ (Romans 8:28 NKJV). This re-defines the bad things that happen. There is a silver lining to every cloud; every downside has a potential upside. This can reassure us that the best is yet to come because God said ‘ For I know the plans I have for you ... plans to give you hope and a future.’ (Jeremiah 9:11 NIV). But sometimes you have a part to play. God is setting us divine appointments, but you must keep them. God is a gift-giver, but you must identify and activate those gifts! God is calling, but you must answer (See Isaiah 6:8). God is ordering your footsteps, but you must keep in step with the Spirit. If you faithfully do your part, you can count on God to do His part – which is to work on your behalf. Pray for this!

The next meeting of the Senior’s Club will take place on Wednesday 7th October at 2pm in the Church Hall when we will hear from guest speaker Graham Stephen about Art Deco in Aberdeen, followed by a performance by students from Aberdeen City Music School. As always, there will be tea and cake. Everyone is welcome. Cost £3 per person.

Friday 9th October at 7 p.m. Cheese and W**e in the Church Hall. Tickets are now available from the Church Office priced £10 each.
