Ephesians 2: 1-5 “You were dead in trespasses and sins.. but God being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ – by grace you have been saved.”
Every one of us has a problem - sin, which we are all guilty of, has resulted in our spiritual deadness and separation from God. The reality of our spiritual condition means we are incapable of doing anything in and of ourselves to resolve this problem. Praise God that He, according to His mercy, has provided a solution for mankind. By giving His Son the Lord Jesus to die on the Cross as a sacrifice for sin, we can be forgiven of our sins and made alive in Him. Like the Philippian jailer you can read about in Acts 16 you may be asking “what must I do to be saved?” The answer is the same today as it was then, “believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved.”

1 Pet 3:18 “For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, that He might bring us to God.”
The sufficiency of the sacrifice of the Lord Jesus Christ on the cross is such that all who come to Him in faith can be forgiven of their sins. When we trust in Him, we can look at His death on the cross and say He took my place, bearing God’s righteous judgement for sins which we deserve. Because He bore judgement, God in His grace can freely forgive those who accept their need for forgiveness and trust in Jesus Christ alone as their means to receive it. Another song the people of God have sung for generations that declares confidence in the Lord! Trouble will come. Trouble is never far away. But for His people the Lord is ‘a very present help’. He is always at hand. He never slumbers, He never sleeps. His people rejoice in His constant care!

This song (psalm) for the people of God causes us to rejoice in the strength of the Lord. Although there are many reasons to be fearful in life, the Lord gives light in a dark place and a stronghold however in danger we feel. So we have every reason to sing, because our joy is in the Lord!
