Sunday Thought

In Isaiah 60: “Our life lived in the light of Christ so reflects His glory and grace that we are attractive to those in darkness, who are seeking the light. We are not told to be salt and light; we are salt and light. It is our effectiveness as these that is the issue. And that comes by our life of repentance and holiness.”

Isaiah 59 brings a drive towards repentance in God’s people: “The Lord who is with us always by His Spirit indwelling the believer, is most particularly with us in His word. Spirit and word belong together, and to attempt to divide – which is where our current church moral chaos has come from – is to divide God Himself.”

In Isaiah 56 – 58 we are remined of the importance of the Sabbath: “Twice we are called to refrain from the one thing our culture prizes above all – doing as we please. Because doing as we please walks away from the One for whom we are made. And doing as we please brings no true pleasure. Joy – that pure, unshakeable; immeasurable delight comes from being near Him who reigns over all the heavens. The Sabbath is a foretaste of the rest we enter into in glory; to spend time closer to the God of all grace, comfort and wonder. To experience a foretaste of what we are heading to – we shall be with the Lord forever.”
