Emergency Alert TEST, Sunday 7 September, 3PM

The UK Government is testing the national Emergency Alert system for mobile phones on Sunday 7 September 2025 at 3PM. Newer mobile phones will make an alert sound like a siren for ten seconds (even if your phone is set to silent, or you've no credit) and display a message explaining it's a test. Check the four pages attached about the test and let any vulnerable folk in your life know they've not to worry about it.

All of Stonehaven's churches of all denominations are having a joint day of events to mark Sea Sunday. Their day begins with folks from all over coming together at 8AM at the very end of the North breakwater pier for a short service of hymns and prayers and a special 'blessing of the fleet'. Everybody's welcome to come and join in this unusual event.

“Sea Sunday” is a worldwide day to honour, recognise, raise awareness of, and support the many men and women who keep our world moving through their work at sea. Often in dangerous and lonely conditions and spending months away from their families.

Churches across the UK and beyond have come together to plan events on Sunday 13th July, marking this day of action. In Stonehaven, all the local churches of all denominations have arranged events in the run up to Sunday, and they’ll all be taking part together in a special Harbour Service at 8AM on the breakwater pier in Stonehaven Harbour. The Stonehaven Lifeboat, the Sea Cadets, and the Seaman’s Mission are amongst the many organisations giving their direct support.

Fr Mark Impson, St Mary’s RC Church in Stonehaven, will be blessing the fleet during the open-air service, and both Fetteresso and Carronside Church of Scotland churches have parts to play at the Harbour Service and during their regular Sunday morning services too. Carronside’s service begins at 10:30AM, and Fetteresso’s at 10:45AM, and visitors are always very welcome in our churches.

A cordial invitation is extended to anyone and everyone to join the churches of Stonehaven on the pier for 8AM on Sunday, to show your support for the 1.9 million seafarers who live and work in often difficult and dangerous conditions. As we expect a good turnout from near and far, please plan to arrive at the pier, under the “Speed Limit 3 Knots” sign, in good time for a prompt 8AM start, remembering that parking may be limited and there is a short walk to get there.

Friday's Christian Aid devotional message opens with a reading from John's gospel - Chapter 15, verses 9 to 17. It contains one of the most powerful verses in the Bible, and one that, today with all the turmoil in the world around us, seems so very simple:

It's Christian Aid week from Sunday 11 May to Saturday 17 May. To help support the week, Christian Aid has produced a booklet of daily devotions that will help us all understand a tiny bit about the issues that other people are dealing with, and give practical advice about ways that we can help.
