💬 "This mental health week, I’ve been reflecting on the theme of breath. Particularly, the days which require immense effort; perhaps days when it feels like breath is all we have. In scripture, breath is associated with God's creative and reviving power - the force that catalyses creation, the spirit breathed into the disciples. But there's a quieter dimension to breath too. It's the steady rhythm that simply keeps us alive, even in the darkest of times.

The Franciscan priest Richard Rohr reminds us that the very name of God in Hebrew - Yahweh - fits the natural rhythm of our breathing. From our very first breath to our last, God's name is on our lips.

There are seasons of life when simply keeping going is all we can manage. Seasons of loss, or of ongoing suffering, that can pare our experience down to the bare bones. In those times we might find ourselves asking: will this ever change? Where is God?

Throughout scripture, God presents himself as the source of our flourishing- our wellbeing is not simply a byproduct of being alive, but something that overflows from God's own self...
..Whatever valley you find yourself in today — may you find the breath to take the next step. And may you know you are not walking alone."

Reflection shared by Corin Pilling, Officer for Vocational Flourishing, for the Daily Service on Radio 4.

Join us in a prayer for all those sitting exams and deadlines, shared by Genesis Padgett, Methodist Youth President 🙏

Father God,
We pray today for those who are taking their SAT's, GCSE's, A-Levels, University Exams or any other exams that may be causing stress or pressure.

Lord we ask you to help them remember what they have learned and to do the best they can, with the understanding that they are perfect in your eyes.

Lord we pray too for teachers, parents, carers, and friends - that they can be full of love and care, to support our young people, and we pray that they too can have calm minds when they feel overwhelmed.

And for those who are anxious, or fearful for their future, we pray bring peace and love. May every young person know that one exam never defines their future, or their potential.

Father God give everyone the knowledge that you go with us always.
Amen.
