MARKED BY FAILURE, RESTORED FOR FELLOWSHIP

Part 1 Raised Around the Work, Not Yet Ready for the War

Join us for a four-part character study of John Mark, one of the most relatable and encouraging figures in the New Testament.
Raised in a godly home, surrounded by spiritual influences, and given remarkable opportunities, John Mark seemed destined for a fruitful future. Yet when the pressure of the mission field intensified, he turned back and abandoned the work. His failure was so significant that it became the cause of a sharp disagreement between Paul and Barnabas.
But that was not the end of his story.
Over the years, John Mark rebuilt what had been lost. Through humility, growth, and proven faithfulness, the man once considered unreliable eventually became “profitable for the ministry” and was used by God to write the Gospel of Mark.
This series explores the influence of a godly home, the dangers of untested service, the process of rebuilding trust after failure, and the grace of God that restores useful servants.
The story of John Mark reminds us that while failure may mark a life, it does not have to define it.

We live in a world that constantly tells us we need more—more success, more possessions, more recognition, more of whatever we do not currently have. Yet God’s Word teaches that true contentment is not found in what we possess, but in the One whom we trust.

Contentment in a covetous world is not a natural response; it is a biblical discipline. As believers, we are called to live differently from the culture around us—not driven by comparison, dissatisfaction, or the endless pursuit of more, but resting in the goodness and sufficiency of God.

May we learn to be grateful for His provision, faithful in our stewardship, and content in His presence.

“Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.” — Hebrews 13:5

The Shepherd does not wait for the sheep to find their own way home.
He does not abandon the wandering one as worthless or expendable.
He pursues. He calls. He restores.

The Gospel is not the story of man searching for God — it is the story of God searching for man.

“What man of you, having an hundred sheep, if he lose one of them, doth not leave the ninety and nine… and go after that which is lost, until he find it?” — Luke 15:4

The Value of a Soul

Luke chapter 15 stands as one of the greatest chapters in all of Scripture. Within its verses Christ delivers three parables that expose the heart of God toward the lost:
* The lost sheep
* The lost coin
* The prodigal son
Each parable is connected by one unifying truth: Heaven places immeasurable value upon that which is lost.
The setting itself is staggering.
The Bible says: “Then drew near unto him all the publicans and sinners for to hear him.”  Luke 15:1

What a blessed month it has been at Calvary Baptist Churches of Great Britain. From powerful preaching and sweet fellowship to encouraging meetings and faithful ministry, we thank the Lord for His goodness and guidance every step of the way.

We were privileged to gather together throughout May for times of praise, fellowship, fitness, and spiritual encouragement, and we praise God for the wonderful spirit present in every meeting. The Lord continues to bless the work, strengthen His people, and open doors for ministry, and for that we are deeply thankful.

To God be the glory.

Everybody wants the breakthrough.
Few people want the discipline that comes before it.

Faithfulness is not proven in the spotlight — it’s revealed in the ordinary, daily decisions nobody sees.

The small things matter.
The routine matters.
Consistency matters.

“He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much.” — Luke 16:10

A Right Spirit

Psalm 51 is not a casual prayer. It is not a polished psalm written from a distance. It is the broken cry of a man who has seen what happens when the inward life collapses.
David is not dealing with surface behaviour. He is not attempting to repair reputation. He is not negotiating consequences. He is addressing the root.

Our work ethic says more about our character than our words ever could.
Scripture calls believers to labour with diligence, integrity, and consistency — not for the praise of men, but as unto the Lord.

Whether at work, at home, in ministry, or when nobody is watching, our testimony is revealed through the effort we give.

“AND WHATSOEVER YE DO, DO IT HEARTILY, AS TO THE LORD…”
— Colossians 3:23
