Sakya Changlochen Ling exists to provide Dechen members and others interested in furthering their practice of the Buddhadharma with a European retreat centre. This auspicious day marked the centre’s 25th anniversary and also the end of a period of development to make it a fit place to host His Holiness. Facilities include a beautiful shrine room, accommodation above for visiting lamas, as well as retreat facilities for those wishing to do personal retreats under Lama Jampa’s guidance. 🌞 A golden time with Lama Jampa, Dechen Dolma and family, and many dharma friends. Over two weeks at our retreat centre in France, Sakya Changlochen Ling, we heard Shantideva's teachings on how to shift our focus from self to other, then received the initiation and detailed instructions on how to meditate on White Tara of the Wishfulfilling Wheel. Meditation on White Tara increases intelligence, longevity and prosperity, so that enlightenment for the benefit of others is achieved more swiftly.

There was also time to drink coffee, laugh and explore the beautiful countryside, with the occasional dip in the Dordogne or Vezere.

We would like to express our deepest thanks to Lama Jampa for giving such profound yet practical teachings, and to thank everyone who gave their time and energy to make this such a wonderful event!

📣 Announcing a brief series of profiles from this year's course and retreat at Sakya Changlochen Ling.

First we hear from Dom, Joe and Lewis - more below 👇

For Dom, Changlochen has been part of life for many years. Joe is here for a second time, enjoying the community and a little space from worldly life. Lewis grew up around the Dharma and is now reconnecting as an adult.

In Dom’s words: “I’ve been coming to Changlochen for as long as I can remember really, but each summer always provides something new: more people to chat to, new teachings to learn, and more French food to enjoy (mostly)!”

Three different routes to Changlochen - and a reminder that everyone is on a different journey!

☸ This Sunday, we welcome Lama Jampa Thaye to Sakya Changlochen Ling for this year's much anticipated Summer Course, taking place from 16th to 28th August. Places are still available and full details and booking details are at the link below:

https://www.sakyabristol.org/events/changlochen-2026/

For Week 1 – Sunday 16th to Friday 21st August - Lama Jampa will teach Chapter 8: 'Meditation' of Śāntideva's renowned text on the Mahayana path, the Bodhicaryāvatāra.

The detailed commentary being relied on for the teachings was composed by Sonam Tsemo (1142-1182), one of the most celebrated masters of the Sakya school in Tibet. The commentary shines a brilliant light on Śāntideva’s great work, clarifying every detail and resolving every difficult point.

It will still be very beneficial to attend even if you missed the earlier chapters.

Initiation of White Dzambhala
On Sunday 16th August Lama will also give the initiation of White Dzambhala from the lineage of Atisha. White Dzambhala or White Jambhala is a manifestation of the Chenrezik, the Buddha of Compassion. The practice is done to remove the suffering of poverty and sickness, purify non-virtuous karma and generate bodhicitta. The practice is said to originate from the great Indian master Atisha, who visited Tibet in the 11th Century CE.

Refuge and the bodhisattva vow will be given to everyone during the preliminary part of the initiation.

Week 2 – Sunday 23rd to Friday 28th August
Retreat on White Tara of the Wish-Fulfilling Wheel
White Tara

The second week will comprise the initiation, receipt of the meditation instructions (Tib. tri) and a retreat on White Tara, the Wish-Fulfilling Wheel. This is a rare opportunity to receive these extraordinary teachings, transmitted in the Tsarpa branch of the Sakya tradition. This system of practice is the principal vajrayana means of achieving longevity. The retreat will begin with the initiation of White Tara of the Wish-Fulfilling Wheel from the lineage of Vagishvakirti and then Lama Jampa will teach the meditation instructions for the practice from Ngawang Legdrup’s ‘Bestowing the Coolness of Longevity, the Oral Instructions of the Blissful Lord’. After this teaching there will be a short retreat, giving participants the time to familiarise themselves with the sadhana itself.

Refuge and the bodhisattva vow will be given to everyone during the preliminary part of the initiation.

We're very much looking forward to welcoming everyone to this beautiful place soon! 🙏
