UPCOMING DATES TO REMEMBER

Here are the Upcoming Dates to Remember for the month of May and early June, with a brief introduction and meaning for each celebration:

May 13 — Feast of Our Lady of Fatima
This feast commemorates the apparitions of the Blessed Virgin Mary to three shepherd children in Fatima, Portugal, in 1917. During these apparitions, Mary called for prayer, repentance, and conversion, especially through the daily Rosary. This celebration reminds us of Mary’s maternal concern for the world and her urgent invitation to return to God with sincere hearts.

May 17 — Ascension of the Lord
The Ascension marks the moment when Jesus Christ returned to heaven forty days after His Resurrection. It signifies the completion of His earthly mission and the promise that He remains with us in a new way. This feast invites us to lift our hearts to heaven and live with hope, knowing that Christ prepares a place for us.

May 24 — Pentecost Sunday
Pentecost celebrates the coming of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles, empowering them to proclaim the Gospel boldly. Often called the “birthday of the Church,” it reminds us that the Spirit continues to guide, strengthen, and renew us today. It is a call to live with courage and to share God’s love with others.

May 31 — Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary
This feast recalls Mary’s visit to her cousin Elizabeth, bringing Christ’s presence into her home. It is a beautiful image of charity in action—Mary did not keep the gift of Jesus to herself but shared Him with others. We are invited to do the same by bringing kindness, service, and Christ’s presence into the lives of those around us.

May 31 — Holy Trinity Sunday
Celebrated on the same day this year, Trinity Sunday honors the central mystery of our faith: one God in three Persons—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Though a mystery beyond full human understanding, it reveals that God is a communion of love, inviting us to live in unity, relationship, and self-giving love.

June 4 — Corpus Christi
Also known as the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ, this feast celebrates the real presence of Jesus in the Eucharist. It is a profound reminder that Christ remains with us—Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity—in the Holy Mass. This day deepens our reverence for the Eucharist and calls us to become what we receive: the Body of Christ in the world.

May these celebrations guide us through the month with deeper faith, renewed devotion, and a heart always open to God’s grace. 🌸

MAY 03 IS HOLY CROSS DAY!

Holy Cross Day has long been associated with the deep Christian reverence for the Cross of Christ, the very symbol of redemption, sacrifice, and victory over sin and death. Traditionally, the Church once observed this feast on May 3, commemorating the discovery of the True Cross by St. Helena, the mother of Emperor Constantine, who, according to Christian tradition, traveled to Jerusalem and identified the Cross upon which Jesus was crucified. This moment became a powerful sign of faith, reminding the Church of the tangible connection between history and salvation.

However, in the spirit of renewal and unity following the Second Vatican Council, the Roman Catholic Church later restructured its liturgical calendar. As part of these reforms, Holy Cross Day was transferred to September 14 and merged with the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross. This change was not intended to diminish its importance but to give greater clarity and consistency to the Church’s universal celebration of the Cross.

By uniting these commemorations, the Church emphasizes the Cross not only as a historical relic discovered in the past, but more importantly as the living sign of Christ’s saving love. It is on the Cross that suffering becomes redemption, and death is transformed into the promise of eternal life. In this way, the observance on September 14 draws the faithful into a deeper reflection on the mystery of salvation and the central place of the Cross in Christian belief.

Thus, whether remembered on May 3 in its older tradition or on September 14 in the current liturgical calendar, Holy Cross Day continues to invite believers to venerate the Cross with gratitude, reverence, and renewed faith in Christ’s sacrifice for humanity.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, SAINT CARLO ACUTIS!

Saint Carlo Acutis died on October 12, 2006 from leukemia, but he was loved for his strong faith and kindness, especially in the digital world where he used his skills to share God's message. He was supposed to be made a saint by Pope Francis on April 27, 2025. Sadly, days before the ceremony, Pope Francis passed away unexpectedly.

This made many people sad because they wanted Carlo to be officially recognized as a saint by the Pope. Even though the ceremony have not happened, many believe that Carlo’s good example and faith will still inspire others, especially in the digital world, and his sainthood may be recognized in the future.

But September 7, 2025, Blessed Carlo Acutis has been officially canonized by Pope Leo XIV , during the Jubilee of Youth in St. Peter’s Square. He was canonized alongside Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati to represent modern holiness for young people.

IN THESE TRYING TIMES,
I PUT MY TRUST IN YOU,
LORD JESUS

In these trying times, especially in the aftermath of Super Typhoon Uwan, we are reminded of the steadfast love and mercy of Jesus Christ, who is our refuge and strength in times of trouble. As we face the devastation and hardships brought by the storm, let us turn to Him in prayer, trusting that His divine providence will guide us through these difficulties. May we find solace in His promise to never forsake us, drawing strength from His presence and the support of our faith community. Let us also remember to be instruments of His love and compassion, helping those most affected and rebuilding our lives with hope rooted in His eternal goodness.

At the Basilica of St. John Lateran on Sunday, Pope Leo XIV urged Christians to build the Church on “solid foundations” rooted in Christ rather than on “worldly criteria” that demand immediate results and overlook the value of patience and humility.

Celebrating Mass for the solemnity of the Dedication of the Lateran Basilica — the cathedral of the bishop of Rome and the oldest church in the city — the pope reflected in his homily on the meaning of this feast and on the Church as a living temple built of “living stones.”

Alone but not Lonely.

Being alone is a different story from being lonely. The former is a state of being, while the latter describes an emotional response to one’s circumstances. Although physically alone — no special companion, no family that you can call your own — you can be still be happy pursuing single blessedness or religious life. As long as your heart finds its rest and feels God's love even more whenever you heed your true calling, nothing can dampen your spirit. 🙂 'Wag nang malungkot kung single ka, you have God in everything.
