Via Nissa

Via Nissa Specialist in residential historical studies, research on Jews in Nice during 1943-44 and select experiences and visits on the French and Italian Rivieras.

Based in Nice, France, Via Nissa, specializes in organizing in-depth experiences for seasoned travelers, the local foreign community and their visitors: those who want to be in the Côte d'Azur not as a detached observer, but as hands-on participants seeking uncommon access. We also curate historical tours, taking our visitors beyond the spaces allocated to tourists, into a world typically availabl

e only to insiders. Our sixth-sense experiences take you back to the world of the Provence many recall from the movies... scenes of long leisurely lunches, fine wines and stimulating conversations. What you remember from films is what Via Nissa brings to life, a day which only a few have experienced. As an example, if you join us on a visit to the wine region of Nice. You will not only taste wine, but will also enjoy a private meal with the vintner and his wife at their home, discussing wine and sharing each other’s view of the world. Lunch will be cooked from seasonal ingredients directly from the morning’s market. You’ll taste wine directly out of the vats as you sit in the garden watching the snowcapped Mercantour Mountains in Italy on one side and the Mediterranean Sea on the other. Our historical tours are not just lectures, (although all our visits are led by those with impeccable academic credentials). We focus on particular niche areas. Your visit to the Old Town Cathedral goes beyond looking into the stunning church. We take you all the way to the bishop's private residence in an excursion curated by the archivist of the Diocese of Nice. We provide a tour of Jewish Nice, unique due to the city's history both in the medieval period as the last refuge in Europe during the Second World War, which goes underground to examine the tunnels and Jewish symbols carved onto the walls of the medieval ghetto. We provide our visitors access to private sights and locations, unavailable to the public at large. In all tours, our objective is to make the outing truly memorable. For the travel designer, our goal is to put value back into your services. Anyone can book a hotel or a tour for mass tourism, but finding the gems, the experiences that only insiders and locals can offer is much more challenging. Via Nissa works with travel designers to customize their clients’ itinerary and provide an experience they won't find anywhere else. We offer exceptional expertise. Our excursions are designed by active historians, archivists, university professors, art historians and other experts in their fields. This expertise provides visits you cannot imagine exist, but once uncovered, you might never want to go anywhere without. After months of virtual ZOOM meetings, offline is the new luxury. Our experiences connect the intellectually curious to a world where you become a part of the story, an insider engaging directly with a newly discovered world and with people whose lives will be remembered long after your return home. It isn’t the sights which you will remember, but the people. Real people who open their lives and let you in. With Via Nissa, we’re not offering a holiday tour. We’re offering a new way to travel; an off-line, sixth-sense memory that will resonate for years to come.

Located at the Musée Palais Lascaris are five panels dating from the 15th century which were found at the ancient synagogue on Rue Benoit Bunico, the former Jewish ghetto in Nice. The five panels though represents individuas from the bible which seem somewhat misplaced in a Jewish synagogue. For example, Queen Jezabel, who has a very negative reputation today among Jewish scholars and Rabbis. The "enquete" in now underway by Via Nissa.
