At IBC St. Paul, as part of our mission giving, we support IBC Debrecen in Hungary. After accepting God’s call to the mission field, the Wittmann family settled in Hungary several years ago.

Despite their financial sacrifices, the church is thriving, and a student outreach program is bringing the Gospel to a city where many have abandoned their faith. Pastor Romain has baptized a number of students as God’s work continues.

As often happens when God’s work is being accomplished, the enemy takes notice. Yet Jesus reminds us, “In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world” (John 16:33, ESV).

Last week, we learned that the Wittmann family and the church are experiencing financial hardships for which their current support is inadequate.

This family has gone “all in” for Christ. While they are currently several thousand euros short, we know that our God is generous and faithful. Jesus assures us that “your Father knows what you need before you ask him” (Matthew 6:8, ESV), and Scripture promises, “And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:19, ESV).

As we consider giving, may each of us do so prayerfully and willingly, remembering the words of 2 Corinthians 9:7: “Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.”
