The Chaplaincy of Poitou-Charentes is situated in Western France and covers an area about the size of Wales. It covers four departments, Vienne, Deux-Sevres, Charente and Charente-Maritime. It is part of the Archdeaconry of France in the Diocese of Europe. The Chaplaincy covers mainly rural areas with low densities of population; the main towns in the region are Poitiers, the regional capital, Angouleme, La Rochelle, Niort, Saintes, Cognac, Barbezieux and Parthenay

In continuing our celebration of 150 years of the Mothers’ Union, we held a Garden Party at the home of Ann Walters, one of our members. Proceeds of sale of produce, cakes, bric-a-brac and raffle tickets, in support of our ‘Away from it all fund’ (AFIA), will allow us to send a deserving family on a holiday. A very enjoyable and successful event in every way !

We are delighted to welcome Dr Noël Tredinnick BEM as guest sung worship leader at Café Church on Sunday 23rd August at 11 am.
Some of you will already know Noël. He has visited our Chaplaincy on several occasions over the years, giving concerts in our Church at Chef Boutonne, and members of our wider Chaplaincy may know him through his ministry. Noël has spent many years serving the Church as a musician, composer, choir director and worship leader, encouraging Christian worship through music both in the UK and internationally, so it will be wonderful to have him lead our sung worship at August’s Café Church.
For those of you who have not attended Café Church it is relaxed and informal. The aim is to welcome those who attend services regularly, haven’t been for a while and/or are slightly curious. Everyone is warmly welcomed to join in the sung worship, conversation, friendship and fellowship around the café tables, hence the name, Café Church. An added bonus are the delicious cakes accompanied by coffee.

Café Church is part of the Chaplaincy of Christ the Good Shepherd Poitou Charentes, Nouvelle Aquitaine, in the Church of England’s Diocese in Europe.

The Mothers’ Union is 150 years old ! On Sunday 2nd August we celebrated this with a Special Service in L’Église Saint Nicholas in Courcelles, Charente-Maritime, led by our President, Wanda McKercher and Secretary, Karen Burke, with hymns accompanied by Phil Burke. The Service format was put together by our Chaplain, Rev Heather Aston. The MU Banner was also re-dedicated.
Coffee and delicious date and walnut cake, baked by our Secretary, Karen, followed this Service, in the sunshine outside. Below are some photos of this happy occasion.
