The celebration of International Women's Day serves as an important reminder that everyone
can play a role in advancing gender equality, whether it is through campaigning for change or
simply showing respect and appreciation for women all over the globe.
Cordaid Ethiopia (Catholic Organisation for Relief & Development Aid), The Embassy of the Kingdom of
the Netherlands (EKN) and the Institute for Peace & Security Studies (IPSS) at Addis Ababa
celebrated International Women’s Day with the theme of Embracing Equity: Celebrating women’s achievements and fostering dialogue for women, peace and security and women’s
economic empowerment in Ethiopia.
The event included several presentations from actors and stakeholders in Women, Peace &
Security and Women’s Economic Empowerment, a keynote address from the Ambassador of
the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, and a thematic panel discussion to foster
dialogue for improving women's equitable participation in peace and security, and increasing
their access to opportunities for economic empowerment in Ethiopia. Panel discussions were
composed of experts in specified fields and a series of presentations focused on the
achievement of different organisations through their programmes, such as achievements and
lessons learned. The event participants were key stakeholders, including the Ministry of women
and social affairs, Ministry of innovation and Technology, Ministry of labour and skills, Ministry ofPeace, Donors, IPSS, EKN, ACT Alliance Ethiopia Forum Members, and partner organisations of
Cordaid Ethiopia.
