Rota Jewish Community

Rota Jewish Community The Rota Jewish Community supports members from all streams of Jewish life, with equal participation for all of our members in line with EO values.

Brief description
Your local Jewish congregation supports members from all streams of Jewish life, with equal participation for all of our members in line with EO values. As a congregation, we seek to make thoughtful choices about how to put Jewish values in action with equal participation for all of our members in line with the Reform movement as well as Equal Opportunity guidelines of the Armed

Forces. Leadership
As the Rota community does not benefit from the presence of a Rabbi, we depend on lay leadership as well as administrative and logistical support from the local chapel staff. Rabbinical support
Our congregation receives training and organizational support from the JWB/JCC North America, and occasional rabbinical support from the WUPJ for life cycle celebrations, marriage ceremonies, brit mila, bar/bat mitzvah, etc. We also have the support of a sponsor rabbi to do interviews for the conversion process as the need arises. History of our congregation
Our congregation began its first steps in 2011 in an attempt to unite Jewish members in the Bay of Cádiz area. This included American members from the Navy base as well as Spanish Jews living in Rota, El Puerto, Jerez and Cádiz. We began by celebrating the major holidays in the Jewish calendar and, little by little, gaining support of the base chaplains to provide us a space to celebrate tefilah in community. We were blessed in 2012 with the use of the Jewish prayer room, and in 2013 members of the congregation renovated this space. We rededicated the room as our synagogue in a celebration during the Channukah. Since then, we have had a rotating membership due to the regular PCSing of military and civilian members, but we have been going strong and hope to continue to do so with your participation!
