دير الملاك غبريال بجبل النقلون Archangel Gabriel Monastery at al-Naqlun Monasticism was established at the monastery by St. Anthony the Great (251–356 AD), the father of all monks. It is a holy, historical, and archaeological site.

The official Page of the Monastery of Archangel Gabriel at al-Naqlun Mountain in Fayoum Egypt Monastic life in the monastery ceased for a period during the Middle Ages due to historical circumstances. However, in the late 1990s, it was revived through the efforts of His Eminence Metropolitan Abba Abraam, Bishop of Fayoum and Abbot of the Monastery. On May 29, 1999, during its regular session, the Holy Synod of the Coptic Orthodox Church of Alexandria officially recognized the monastery and declared it one of the inhabited monasteries.
