Egypt’s M***i Lectures to German Imams and Preachers as Part of Al-Azhar’s Training Program
_________________
Dr. Nazir Mohamed Ayyad, Grand M***i of Egypt, President of the General Secretariat for Fatwa Authorities Worldwide, delivered an online lecture as part of a training program organized by Al-Azhar International Academy in cooperation with the World Organization for Al-Azhar Graduates to train and qualify imams and preachers serving in Germany.
During the lecture, Dr. Ayyad addressed the Sunni approach to understanding the scriptural descriptions of Allah’s Attributes. He emphasized that this approach is based on affirming what is established in the Qur’an and Sunnah while maintaining Allah’s absolute transcendence above any resemblance to His creation, thereby avoiding both anthropomorphism and denial of His Attributes.
The Grand M***i explained that a sound understanding of these texts requires an integrated framework of established Islamic and linguistic principles. He cautioned against relying solely on the apparent meanings of words without considering their linguistic and religious contexts, noting that such an approach can lead to conceptual confusion and doctrinal deviation. He also highlighted the essential role of the Arabic language in accurately understanding the meanings of Islamic texts.
Dr. Ayyad further emphasized the Azharī approach, which harmonizes authentic transmitted evidence with sound rational understanding, while ensuring that reason remains guided and disciplined by revelation and established principles of interpretation. He concluded by stressing the importance of promoting a balanced and scholarly approach to Islamic creed and equipping Imams and preachers with the knowledge and methodological tools needed to preserve the sound foundations of Islamic belief and protect communities from misconceptions and misguided ideas.

Statement by His Eminence Dr. Nazir Mohamed Ayyad, Grand M***i of Egypt
_____________

I was deeply encouraged by the remarkable progress our beloved nation, Egypt, continues to make in strengthening its state institutions and enhancing its military and security capabilities under the wise leadership of His Excellency President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of the Arab Republic of Egypt. Such achievements reaffirm that strong and resilient nations are built upon knowledge, diligent work, and sincere dedication, and that safeguarding national security and stability is both a religious responsibility and a patriotic obligation.

The inauguration of "The Octagon", the State's Strategic Command Headquarters, today, Saturday, 4 July 2026, in the New Administrative Capital, reflects Egypt's ongoing commitment to modernizing its national institutions in line with the highest contemporary standards.

This important milestone further strengthens the state's capacity to protect the nation, preserve its resources, and respond effectively to evolving challenges. It also underscores the principle that responsible national strength is an essential pillar for safeguarding peace, stability, and sustainable development.

I pray that Almighty God continues to protect Egypt—its leadership, people, and armed forces—from all harm, bless it with enduring security and stability, and grant its leaders and citizens success in all that serves the welfare and prosperity of the nation.
