“The knife was sharp.
The test was heavy.
And the hearts of a father and son were trembling with submission to Allah.
When Prophet Ibrahim عليه السلام was commanded to sacrifice the one he loved most, he did not argue with Allah.
And when Prophet Ismail عليه السلام understood the command, he did not run away from it.
This was a moment of pure faith, a level of trust so deep that even today it brings tears to believing hearts.
Allah says in the Qur’an:
“And when they had both submitted and he put him down upon his forehead, We called to him, ‘O Ibrahim, you have fulfilled the vision.’ Indeed, We thus reward the doers of good.”
Surah As-Saffat 37:103–105
At that moment, Allah did not want the blood of Ismail عليه السلام.
Allah wanted to show the world what complete submission looks like.
A father willing to give up everything for Allah.
A son willing to obey Allah without fear.
Then came Allah’s mercy:
“And We ransomed him with a great sacrifice.”
Surah As-Saffat 37:107
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“There is no deed done on the day of sacrifice more beloved to Allah than the shedding of blood (of the sacrifice).”
Sunan Ibn Majah, Hadith 3126
Another narration says:
“It is the Sunnah of your father Ibrahim.”
Jami‘ at-Tirmidhi, Hadith 1498
Sometimes Allah tests you with what you love the most.
Not because He wants to take it away forever…
but because He wants your heart to love Him more than anything else in this world.
The story of Ibrahim عليه السلام is not just about sacrifice.
It is about trust when the heart is breaking, obedience when the soul is struggling, and faith when nothing makes sense.
And whoever chooses Allah over everything else will never be abandoned by Him.”
