أيقونة تذكارية لمثلث الرحمات المتنيح البابا شنوده الثالث البطريرك ال١١٧.

تُصور الأيقونة البابا المعظم الأنبا شنوده الثالث واقفًا في المنتصف ممسكًا بالصليب والحية النحاسية مرتديًا ملابسه الكهنوتية والتاج على رأسه، ويلف زنار حول وسطه على مثال السيد المسيح الذي ائتزر بمنديل ليخدم ويمسح أرجل التلاميذ، في إشارة لخدمة البابا الباذلة والمتضعة، معلَّق في هذا المنديل نبلة وكيس به حجارة للنبلة وذلك كما جاء في الأنتيفوناريون القبطي عن البابا أثناسيوس حيث يقول "... تشبهت بداود مرتل الأقداس القديس الذي أخذ أحجارًا في مقلاعه ودكّ الغرباء، أنت أيضا أيها الرسولي أغلقت أفواه الهراطقة أعداء الكنيسة بعقائدك المستقيمة"، وعلي الرغم من أن الكلام يوصف ما فعله البابا أثناسيوس الرسولي إلا أنه بالطبع ينطبق علي المتنيح البابا شنودة الثالث، كما يمسك البابا بيده مصباح زيت مضيء، دلالة على قوة روحانيته وفضائله، متشبهًا بالعذارى الحكيمات في اليقظة الروحية، ونري مكتوبًا على ملابسه الكهنوتية كلمات لحن (ني سافيف تيرو) الذي يقول: "يا كل حكماء إسرائيل صناع خيوط الذهب، اصنعوا ثوبًا هارونيًا لائقًا بكرامة كهنوت أبينا رئيس الأساقفة البابا شنوده".
نري البابا بهيئة تغمرها الفرح والقوة والثبات، يقف على أرض مُزهرة بها شجرًا ممتلئ أثمارًا، دلاله على فضائله وأعماله التي عملها وتعاليمه المستقيمة، والنفوس التي ربحها برحمته ومحبته، كما يظهر ثعبان تحت قدميه يطعنه بالعصا النحاسية، دلالة على قوته في مواجهته الهراطقة والتعاليم المندسة والمُهلكة لشعبه، كما يظهر نبع ماء رمزًا للنقاء والقوة التي تتجدد بداخله بعمل الروح القدس الساكن فيه.
وفي الخلف نجد القديس مارمرقس الإنجيلي، يضع يده اليمني على كتف البابا ناظراً إلى الأمام يوجه لنا رسالة بأن نتبع أثار البابا شنوده، وبوضع يده على كتفه يؤكد على الامتداد والتواصل من السيد المسيح وحتى البابا شنوده، كخليفة رسولي حقيقي، يتمم وينفذ وصية الإنجيل ويعلم تعاليم المسيح التي استلمها من الرسول مرقس الكاروز بكل أمانه. يقف القديس مارمرقس الرسول على عمود يرمز للثبات والقوة والصمود أمام الشر وتعب الخدمة، كما يمسك إنجيله وعليه صورة الأسد مكتوبًا فوقه (يسوع المسيح المنتصر).
وفي الناحية المقابلة للقديس مارمرقس الرسولي، يقف البابا أثناسيوس الرسولي البطريرك العشرون، ممسكًا بلوح مكتوب عليه بداية قانون الأيمان (نؤمن بإله واحد)، وهو ينظر الى الأمام أيضا في نظرة تعبر عن الاستقامة والثبات وتكملة للمسيرة المقدسة الأرثوذكسية المستقيمة، وهو يظهر هنا مع البابا شنوده، ليؤكد على أرثوذكسية تعاليمه وأنه خليفته الثابت علي الإيمان المستقيم.
في أعلي الصورة يظهر الرب يسوع المسيح الله الكلمة فاتحًا يده فباليمنى يبارك وباليسرى يمسك الإنجيل، في وضع احتواء، فهو رئيس الكهنة الأعظم ومحب البشر الصالح، الذي من أجله ومن أجل محبته تعب وتحمل الآباء الكثير من المشقات والاضطهادات والأتعاب.
ومكتوبٌ في الهالة من حول السيد الرب كلمة (الكائن)، وكلمة قدوس تزين الإطار الخارجي للدائرة حول السيد المسيح.
في الأسفل مكتوب "آفا ماركوس ناظر الإله" و"البابا أثناسيوس الرسولي".
الزخارف وشكل مصباح الزيت والكتاب المقدس وبعض التفاصيل الأخرى مستوحاة من زخارف ملابس الاقباط في (قرن ٥- ٧).
أخيرًا، اطلبوا من الرب عنا أيها الأباء الذين عاشوا الايمان وسلموه ودافعوا عنه ثابتين في المسيح بالحقيقة، حتى يثبتنا الرب الإله في الإيمان المستقيم، ويحفظ الكنيسة حتى مجيئه الثاني، لك المجد أيها الثالوث القدوس من الآن وإلى الأبد آمين.

A Commemorative Icon of the Late Pope Shenouda III, the 117th Patriarch

The icon portrays His Holiness Pope Shenouda III standing at the center, holding both the cross and the bronze serpent, dressed in his priestly vestments and crowned with his patriarchal crown. Around his waist is a sash reminiscent of Christ, who girded Himself with a towel to wash the feet of the disciples—an emblem of the Pope’s humble, selfless service to his flock.
Hanging from this sash are a slingshot and a pouch of stones, alluding to the words of the Coptic Antiphonary of Pope Athanasius:
“…you resembled David, the holy psalmist of the Holy Sacraments, who took stones in his sling and crushed the strangers. You too, O Apostle, silenced the mouths of the heretics, the enemies of the Church, with your righteous doctrines.”
Though originally describing the work of Pope Athanasius the Apostolic, these words apply unmistakably to Pope Shenouda III and his steadfast defense of the Orthodox faith.
In his hand, the Pope carries a lit oil lamp—a symbol of strength, vigilance, and spiritual readiness, likened to the wise virgins whose lamps remained burning.
On his priestly vestments appear the words of the hymn “Ni Saviv Tiro”:
“O all wise men of Israel, makers of threads of gold, make an Aaronic robe worthy of the priesthood of our father, Patriarch Pope Shenouda.”
The Pope is depicted in joy, stability, and strength, standing upon fertile, flowering ground filled with fruit-bearing trees. These symbolize his virtues, his works, his righteous teachings, and the souls he gained through mercy and love. Beneath his feet is a serpent pierced with a bronze staff, representing his courage in confronting heresy and destructive teachings. Nearby, a spring of water flows—symbolizing purity and the renewal granted by the Holy Spirit dwelling within him.
In the background stands St. Mark the Evangelist, placing his right hand upon the Pope’s shoulder as he looks forward. This gesture calls us to follow in the footsteps of Pope Shenouda and affirms the apostolic continuity from Christ to Pope Shenouda—the true successor of St. Mark, who lived, taught, and preserved the Gospel he had received. St. Mark stands upon a pillar, symbolizing steadfastness and endurance in ministry, holding his Gospel adorned with the image of a lion and the inscription “Jesus Christ the Victorious.”
Opposite him stands Pope Athanasius the Apostolic, the twentieth Patriarch, holding a tablet inscribed with the opening of the Creed: “We believe in one God.” He too gazes forward, expressing uprightness, strength, and the unwavering continuation of the Orthodox path. His presence alongside Pope Shenouda affirms the orthodoxy of Shenouda’s teachings and his rootedness in the apostolic faith.
At the top of the icon appears the Lord Jesus Christ, God the Word, extending His hand. With His right hand He blesses; with His left He holds the Gospel—a gesture of divine embrace. He is the High Priest and Lover of Mankind, for whom the Fathers toiled, suffered, and endured persecution.
In Christ’s halo is written “The Existing One,” and around the outer ring, the word “Holy” is inscribed.
Below the figures are the inscriptions:
“Ava Markos, the Beholder of God” and
“Pope Athanasius the Apostolic.”
The decorative elements, the shape of the oil lamp, the Gospel book, and several other details draw inspiration from the motifs of Coptic textiles dating from the 5th to 7th centuries.
Finally, we beseech you, O Fathers who lived, preserved, and defended the faith—steadfast in Christ and rooted in truth—to pray for us, that the Lord may strengthen us in the true faith and preserve His Church until His Second Coming.
