THE TREMENDOUS VALUE OF THE HOLY MASS
At the hour of death the masses you have heard will be your greatest consolation.
Every mass will go with you to judgment and plead for your pardon.
At every mass you can diminish the temporal punishment due to your sins, more or less according to your fervor.
Assisting devoutly at mass, you render to the Sacred Humanity of our Lord the greatest homage.
He supplies for many of your negligence and omissions.
He forgives you all the venial sins which you never confessed.
The power of Satan over you is diminished.
You afford the souls in purgatory the greatest possible relief.
One mass heard during your life will be of more benefit to you than many heard for you after your death.
You are preserved from many dangers and misfortunes which would otherwise have befallen you.
You shorten your purgatory by every mass.
Every mass wins for you a higher degree of glory in heaven.
You receive the priest’s blessing which our Lord ratifies in heaven.
You kneel amidst a multitude of holy angels, who are present at the adorable sacrifice with reverential awe.
You are blessed in your temporal goods and affairs.
Every time we assist at mass and offer the Holy Sacrifice in honor of any particular saint or angel thanking God for favors He bestowed on Him, we afford Him a great degree of honor, joy and happiness and draw His special love and protection on us.
QUOTES BY SAINTS REVEALING THE MYSTICAL NATURE OF HOLY MASS
The Mass is the greatest worship that Christians ( Catholic ) can offer to God!
When Mass is being celebrated, the sanctuary is filled with countless angels who adore the Divine Victim immolated on the altar.” – St. John Chrysostom
If we really understood the Mass, we would die of joy.” – St. Jean Vianney
The angels surround and help the priest when he is celebrating Mass.” – St. Augustine
Put all the good works in the world against one Holy Mass; they will be as a grain of sand beside a mountain.” – St. John Vianney
Let the entire man be seized with fear; let the whole world tremble; let heaven exult when Christ, the Son of the Living God, is on the altar in the hands of the priest. O admirable height and stupendous condescension! O humble sublimity! O sublime humility! that the Lord of the universe, God and the Son of God, so humbles Himself that for our salvation He hides Himself under a morsel of bread.” – St. Francis of Assisi
No human tongue can enumerate the favors that trace back to the Sacrifice of the Mass. The sinner is reconciled with God; the just man becomes more upright; sins are wiped away; vices are uprooted; virtue and merit increases; and the devil’s schemes are frustrated.” – St. Lawrence Justinian
Know, O Christian, that the Mass is the holiest act of religion. You cannot do anything to glorify God more, nor profit your soul more, than by devoutly assisting at it, and assisting as often as possible.” – St. Peter Julian Eymard
The heavens open and multitudes of angels come to assist in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass.” – St. Gregory the Great
How happy is that guardian angel who accompanies a soul to Holy Mass!” – St. John Vianney
When we receive Holy Communion, we experience something extraordinary – a joy, a fragrance, a well being that thrills the whole body and causes it to exalt.” – St. John Vianney
I believe that were it not for the Holy Mass, as of this moment the world would be in the abyss.” St. Leonard of Port Maurice
Thank God for the gift of Jesus in the Eucharist!
A PRAYER BEFORE RECEIVING HOLY COMMUNION
(At Holy Mass on Sundays as well as all other days of the week)
by Saint Thomas Aquinas:
“Almighty & Everlasting God, Lord down upon me, Thy unworthy servant who now draws near to The Most Holy Sacrament of Thy Only-Begotten Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ. I approach as one who is sick to the Physician of Life; as one unclean to the fountain of mercy; as one blind, to the light of eternal brightness; as one poor and needy, to the Lord of heaven and earth. I implore thee, therefore, out of the abundance of Thy boundless Mercy, that Thou wouldst vouchsafe to heal my sickness, to wash away all my defilement, to give sight to my eyes, to enrich my poverty, and to Cloth my nakedness; .. that I may receive the Bread of Angels, the King of a Kings, the Lord of Lords, with such reverence and humility, such contrition and devotion, such purity and faith, such purpose and intention, as may tend to the salvation of my soul.’
“Grant to me, I most humbly beseech Thee, not only to receive the Sacrament of the Body, Blood, Soul & Divinity, but likewise to profit by it’s entire Substance and Virtue. O God, Most Merciful, grant me the grace to receive the Body & Blood, of Thy Only-Begotten Son, Jesus Christ, which He took of the Ever Virgin Mary, in such wise, that I Mayo be found worthy to be incorporated into His Mystical Body, and for evermore to be numbered among His members.’
“O Heavenly Father, Most Loving, .. I am about to welcome into my heart now Thy own Beloved Son, hidden under His Sacramental Veil of the Holy Eucharist. May it, in Thy Great Goodness, be mine, in the end, for all eternity face to face to lovingly gaze upon Him: Who with Thee liveth and reigns the, in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God, World without end. Amen! “
