It is with great sadness that we learned that our pastor and leader of the Ancient Celtic Church in Costa Rica, Mauricio Largaespada, passed away on 19 December 2025. He was a long-time friend and comrade who was deeply committed to the church. The Almighty has taken his faithful servant to Himself. We will cherish his memory and remember him fondly.

The Three Magi, also known as the Three Wise Men or the Three Kings, are central figures in the Christian Nativity story. According to the Gospel of Matthew, they travelled from the East to Bethlehem following a bright star, which led them to the newborn Jesus Christ.

Their names—Caspar, Melchior, and Balthasar—do not appear in the Bible, but have been attributed to them through tradition. Each Magus is often associated with a specific gift: gold, frankincense, and myrrh, respectively. These gifts were considered precious and symbolised aspects of Jesus' identity: gold representing kingship, frankincense symbolising deity, and myrrh foreshadowing his eventual sacrifice.

The Magi's journey to honour the infant Jesus represents the recognition of Christ's significance beyond geographical and cultural boundaries. Their visitation is celebrated as the Feast of Epiphany on January 6th in many Christian traditions, marking the revelation of Jesus to the Gentiles.

Their story continues to captivate and symbolise the universal adoration and recognition of the divine in various cultures and faiths, emphasising the themes of wisdom, faith, and the quest for spiritual truth.

May the grace of the Creator guide your steps,
As the dawn of a new year breaks upon the earth.
May the ancient wisdom of our ancestors
Illuminate your path with hope and rebirth.

May the blessings of love and peace abound,
Enfolding you in their gentle embrace,
As you journey through this new season found,
Filled with joy, courage, and divine grace.

May the light of Christ shine brightly within,
Guiding you through both shadow and sun,
May your heart be filled with faith to begin,
A new year where God's will shall be done.

So, as the days unfold in their grand design,
May you find strength in the lessons learned,
Embracing each moment, the mundane and divine,
With faith, hope, and love ever returned.

Dear Heavenly Father,

On this solemn and sacred All Souls' Day, we gather in prayer to remember and honor the departed souls who have left this earthly realm and now rest in your loving embrace. We lift our hearts and voices to you, seeking your mercy and grace for these souls who have gone before us.

We thank you, Lord, for the promise of eternal life through your Son, Jesus Christ. We trust in your boundless love and mercy, knowing that you desire the salvation and peace of every soul. We pray for all those who have departed from this world, especially those who may be forgotten or overlooked, that they may find comfort and solace in your presence.

Grant them rest, O Lord, and let your perpetual light shine upon them. Heal the wounds of their souls, and in your mercy, grant them the peace and joy of your heavenly kingdom. May they be reunited with their loved ones, and may the pain of separation be replaced with the joy of eternal togetherness.

We also pray for those who mourn the loss of their loved ones. Comfort their hearts, wipe away their tears, and fill their souls with hope. Let them find solace in the knowledge that their departed loved ones are in your loving care.

Lord, we offer this prayer not only for the souls of the departed but also for ourselves. Help us to live our lives in a way that is pleasing to you, so that when our time on this earth comes to an end, we may be welcomed into your loving presence.

In your infinite wisdom and love, we trust and place our hope. We offer this prayer in the name of your Son, Jesus Christ, who conquered death, and through whom we have the hope of eternal life.

Amen.

All Souls' Day, observed on November 2nd, is a solemn and significant day in the Christian calendar dedicated to remembering and praying for the souls of the departed. This tradition has deep historical and theological roots, with its origins dating back to the early Christian Church. Here's a brief overview of the meaning and customs associated with All Souls' Day:

Meaning and Purpose:
All Souls' Day is a day of remembrance and prayer for the souls of the deceased, particularly those who may still be in purgatory, a temporary state of purification for souls on their way to heaven in Catholic theology. It is a time to show love, respect, and concern for our departed loved ones.

History:
The origins of All Souls' Day can be traced back to the early Christian tradition of commemorating the deceased, which was later formalized in the 10th century by Saint Odilo, the abbot of Cluny. It gradually spread throughout the Christian world.

Customs and Traditions:
Prayers and Masses:
On All Souls' Day, special masses and prayers are offered for the souls in purgatory, seeking their release from suffering.
Gravesite Visits:
Many people visit cemeteries to pray for their deceased family members and friends, often lighting candles and placing flowers on graves.
Tolling of Bells:
In some cultures, church bells toll to remind the faithful to pray for the souls of the departed.
Charity and Almsgiving:
Acts of charity and giving are encouraged as a way to honour the deceased and seek their intercession on behalf of the living.
Reflection and Compassion:
All Souls' Day is a time for reflection on the transient nature of life and a reminder of the importance of compassion and care for one another. It encourages us to remember that death is not the end but a step in the journey of the soul.

In conclusion, All Souls' Day is a day of remembrance, prayer, and reflection on the souls of the departed. It carries a profound spiritual and cultural significance, emphasizing the interconnectedness of the living and the deceased while offering hope for the eternal journey of the soul.

All Saints' Day, also known as All Hallows' Day or Solemnity of All Saints, is a Christian observance celebrated on November 1st in many parts of the world. This significant feast day is dedicated to honouring all the saints, known and unknown, who have lived righteous lives and are believed to be in heaven.

The origins of All Saints' Day can be traced back to the early Christian tradition, which commemorated the martyrs who had died for their faith. Over time, this observance evolved to include not only martyrs but all the faithful departed who had achieved sainthood. In the Western Christian tradition, Pope Gregory III (731-741) dedicated a chapel in Rome's St. Peter's Basilica to all the saints on November 1st, which later became the official date for All Saints' Day.

On All Saints' Day, Christians attend church services to celebrate the lives and virtues of the saints. They reflect on the lives of these holy individuals who serve as role models and inspirations for their own faith journeys. In some regions, people visit cemeteries and graves to offer prayers and remember their loved ones who have passed away. This practice emphasizes the connection between the living and the deceased, acknowledging the hope of eternal life in the Christian belief.

In addition to its religious significance, All Saints' Day also carries cultural and historical importance in various countries. In Mexico, for example, it coincides with the Day of the Dead (Dia de los Mu***os), a vibrant and colourful celebration of deceased loved ones. In many European countries, people light candles and participate in processions to honour the saints.

All Saints' Day serves as a reminder of the Christian belief in the communion of saints, which means that all believers, both living and deceased, are part of the same spiritual family. It underlines the idea that holiness is attainable by anyone and that the virtuous lives of the saints can inspire individuals to live more virtuously themselves.

In conclusion, All Saints' Day is a significant Christian observance that venerates the lives of all saints, known and unknown, who have exemplified the Christian faith. It is a day of reflection, remembrance, and celebration, with deep cultural and spiritual roots in various parts of the world. Whether through church services or visits to cemeteries, this day brings the Christian community together to honour the saints and contemplate the eternal hope of salvation.
