At the beginning of Ramadan, more than 400 believers gathered in the large hall of the Opal Hotel - the men on the first floor and the women on the ground floor.
Every Friday, Muslims gather at the Opal Hotel in Idar because the mosques are no longer big enough to accommodate everyone. What is striking is the large number of young visitors, who are rarely found in Christian churches these days.
February 28 marks the beginning of Ramadan, the month in which, according to Muslim belief, the Koran was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad. During this month, healthy adult Muslims are required to abstain from eating, drinking, and smoking from dawn to dusk as part of spiritual purification and self-discipline.
Imam’s sermon on fasting and respect.
Imam Said Atemni, originally from Morocco, delivered his sermon in three languages: Arabic, French, and German. His speech contained messages that are also found in Christian sermons, as he stated:
Ramadan is not only a time of fasting, but also a time of reflection and returning to the fundamentals of our lives.
He also spoke about the importance of eating healthy after breakfast and stressed the need to respect oneself, others, and God. He also called for this month to be used to think of the poor who may not find enough to eat.
A call to respect others.
Ramadan is also an opportunity for Muslims to reflect on their behavior and adhere to the Quran’s teachings of tolerance, cleanliness, respect for others and moral behavior.
The sermon began with the Adhan, a call to prayer that is reminiscent of a Western musical song, and was delivered Friday by young Junaid Qazi, the son of Inayat Khan Qazi, the vice president of the Islamic community “Jamaat al-Taqwa” in Idar-Oberstein.
Qadi said his group does not tolerate any form of extremism or criminality, noting that the imam has good contacts in the community and works with social workers, police and immigration authorities to ensure the integration of Muslims in the city.
The Muslim community in Idar-Oberstein is made up of people from 32 different nationalities, many of whom have lived in the city for decades, pay taxes and lead stable lives. The municipality has also recently welcomed investors from Kuwait who have purchased properties in the area.
Last Friday, two unaccompanied 13-year-old Syrian children were brought to the mosque by a social worker from Nohfelden to give them a sense of belonging and community support.
There is no place for criminals
Inayat Khan Qazi said:
We are accepted and respected as Muslims here in Idar-Oberstein, and in return we respect our neighbors and teach our children the values of tolerance. There is no place for criminals in our society.
As part of his efforts to promote understanding between Muslims and non-Muslims, the imam invited all citizens to attend sermons every day at 3:45 p.m. at the mosque located at 240 Main Street, between the Aral gas station and the police station, with the aim of promoting dialogue and peaceful coexistence in the city.

مع بداية شهر رمضان، اجتمع أكثر من 400 مؤمن في القاعة الكبيرة بفندق أوبال - حيث كان الرجال في الطابق الأول والنساء في الطابق الأرضي.
يجتمع المسلمون كل يوم جمعة في فندق أوبال في إيدار، حيث لم تعد المساجد تكفي لاستيعاب الجميع. ومع بداية رمضان، تجمع أكثر من 400 شخص في قاعة الفندق الكبيرة في بورصة الأحجار الكريمة بإيدار-أوبرشتاين، موزعين على طابقين ومفصولين حسب الجنس. اللافت للنظر هو عدد الشباب الحاضرين، وهو مشهد نادر في الكنائس المسيحية هذه الأيام.
يوافق 28 فبراير بداية شهر رمضان، وهو الشهر الذي يعتقد المسلمون أنه نزل فيه القرآن على النبي محمد. خلال هذا الشهر، يجب على المسلمين البالغين الأصحاء الامتناع عن الأكل والشرب والتدخين من الفجر حتى غروب الشمس، كجزء من التطهر الروحي والانضباط الذاتي.
**خطبة الإمام عن الصيام والاحترام**
ألقى الإمام سعيد أتمني، الذي ينحدر من المغرب، خطبته بثلاث لغات: العربية والفرنسية والألمانية. وكان حديثه يحمل رسائل قد نجدها أيضًا في العظات المسيحية، إذ قال:
*"رمضان ليس فقط وقتًا للصيام، بل هو أيضًا وقت للتأمل والعودة إلى الأساسيات في حياتنا."*
كما تحدث عن أهمية التغذية الصحية بعد الإفطار، مشيرًا إلى ضرورة احترام النفس والآخرين والله. كما دعا إلى استغلال هذا الشهر للتفكير في الفقراء الذين قد لا يجدون ما يأكلونه.
**دعوة لاحترام الآخرين**
رمضان هو أيضًا فرصة للمسلمين لإعادة تقييم سلوكهم، والالتزام بتعاليم القرآن من حيث التسامح، والنظافة، واحترام الآخرين، والتصرف بأخلاق حسنة.
بدأت الخطبة بـ "الأذان"، الذي يُشبه في أذان الغربيين ترنيمًا موسيقيًا، وقدمه يوم الجمعة الشاب جنيد قاضي، ابن عناية خان قاضي، نائب رئيس جماعة "جماعة التقوى" الإسلامية في إيدار-أوبرشتاين.
أوضح قاضي أن جماعته لا تسمح بأي شكل من أشكال التطرف أو الجريمة، مؤكدًا أن الإمام مرتبط جيدًا بالمجتمع، حيث يعمل مع الأخصائيين الاجتماعيين والشرطة وإدارة الهجرة لضمان اندماج المسلمين في المدينة.
تتألف الجالية المسلمة في إيدار-أوبرشتاين من أشخاص ينتمون إلى 32 جنسية مختلفة، يعيش الكثير منهم في المدينة منذ عقود، ويدفعون الضرائب، ويتمتعون بحياة مستقرة. كما أن الجالية استقبلت مؤخرًا مستثمرين من الكويت اشتروا عقارات في المنطقة.
في الجمعة الماضية، تم إحضار طفلين سوريين غير مصحوبين بذويهما، يبلغان من العمر 13 عامًا، إلى المسجد من قبل أخصائي اجتماعي من نوهفلدن، في محاولة لمنحهم إحساسًا بالانتماء والدعم من المجتمع.
**"لا مكان للمجرمين بيننا"**
قال عناية خان قاضي:
*"نحن مقبولون ومحترمون هنا في إيدار-أوبرشتاين كمسلمين، وبدورنا نحترم جيراننا ونعلم أطفالنا قيم التسامح. لا مكان للمجرمين في مجتمعنا."*
كجزء من جهوده لتعزيز التفاهم بين المسلمين وغير المسلمين، دعا الإمام جميع المواطنين لحضور الخطب اليومية في المسجد الواقع في شارع هاوبتشتراسه 240، بين محطة الوقود (Aral) ومركز الشرطة، في الساعة 15:45، بهدف تعزيز الحوار والتعايش السلمي في المدينة.
