WORD ENCOUNTER DAILY
People of God — good afternoon!
I trust you and your families are doing well. Please pray for Jonathan one of us here. He undergoes an eye operation today. May the good Lord our great physician restores his health.
Do you remember these? Chitumbuwa, banzi, bread, scones, and finally sponge cake. If not, let this be a reminder: if you desire true riches, don’t skip the sequence. First comes vizitumbuwa, then mabanzi, then bread and mascono, and only after that do you enjoy sponge cake.
The Power of Process and Mentorship
Scripture Reading: “The blessing of the LORD, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it.” – Proverbs 10:22
I trust you and your families are doing well.
Lesson
Don’t take shortcuts or cut corners in the pursuit of riches. Hard work alone doesn’t guarantee wealth — blessings and favor are what truly establish it. No man rises alone; every man is helped along the way. On earth there are only “helped men.”
The Value of Mentorship
No matter how big you become, remain humble and open to mentorship. I myself was mentored by great men and women whose influence shaped my life:
As a boy at St. Marks, the late Mr. Lungu (RIP) and other teachers like Mr. Kaoma and Misheck Moonga (Mesh) guided me.
Previously in Choma at Chuundu, Mr. Simatyaba was of great help. I remember when we had no school fees — together with friends like Shredrick Hamakando, he hired us to collect firewood to burn bricks for his house. The money he paid us helped cover part of our school fees and buy books from Choma Book Room.
In athletics, I was trained by the late Boggar Mushanga (RIP), Zambia’s longest-serving athletics coach and a senior police officer. Sometimes I even slept in his home at Cheston, Lusaka.
At Mulungushi, Yonah Mwale was my coach and mentor — a gallant man in sports who later served many years as ZAAA General Secretary. (Still alive and strong!)
When I came to Germany, Dr. Ren. Wolfgang Habermann (RIP) sponsored and mentored me. I also drew wisdom from Professor Salomon, Dr. Musomali (Socialist Party leader’s right hand man), and Lazarus Kampambwe — my uncle, now a diplomat serving as Special Envoy to President Hakainde Hichilema. His counsel at a crucial time propelled me forward.
My own uncle, Col. C. Mulongo, one of the founding officers of the Zambia National Service, was my role model and mentor. His legacy lives on today in the leaders he trained.
Even great leaders like General Kingsley Chinkuli invested wisdom in me.
And I cannot forget the many women who shaped me — my mother, aunties, sisters, and family friends. Truly, it takes a whole village to raise a child.
When I look back, I see clearly: my story is really the story of those who walked with me and mentored me.
A Word of Caution
Don’t ever say: “Nobody can talk to me.” That attitude kills growth. God raises us through the wisdom of others.
A Father’s Blessing
My own father not only taught me the fear and reverence of God, but also gave me profound counsel on how to be a man and stand on my own. He was not only a father but also a friend — someone I could freely talk to and draw wisdom from.
I remember when he prophesied over his children. He didn’t say anything about me until I asked him. When I finally did, he said: “You will see the world. And I hope one day, when you marry, you will marry someone who understands your life in sports.”
Today, when I look back, I see how his words have manifested powerfully in my journey.
Closing Thought
Beloved, embrace process. Welcome mentorship. Stay humble. And above all, depend on the blessing and favor of God. That is what makes a life truly rich.
Stay blessed and graced. Prayer
Lord Jesus, thank You for the blessing of process and the gift of mentorship. Keep us humble, teachable, and walking in Your favor. May we also invest in others as others invested in us. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
