TOPIC: YOU KNOW THIS? THEN, PURIFY YOURSELF

Read 1 John 3:1-9

MEMORISE: Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is. And everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself, just as He is pure (1 John 3:2-3)

EXPOSITION
What a privilege to be called children of God which we do not deserve to be called, at all (1 Jn 3:1) Son of the Most High? That is what we are now. However, for the carnal-minded, it is a dilemma to know and grasp what we would look like in the hereafter (v. 2a). Most religions believe in the hereafter, aside the Sadducees who don't even believe in resurrection of the dead. The difficulty is to describe beyond mere fables what our nature would be in the hereafter. The Bible clears this for human understanding: we would one day be like Him - absolutely perfect, unlike the relative perfection we parade here and now (V. 2).
One glorious morning is coming when all mourning shall be gone. Why? How? We are going to see our Saviour face to face in His true and full regalia of glory, no more like looking into the mirror, not even anything to be compared with what Peter, James and John saw on the mount of transfiguration (Matt. 17:1-8). What a glorious sight that would be! The heaven-conscious can't wait to see that. What about you?
What a great hope, dowsing the palpable tension gripping this world and generation! What a relief from the hypertension-causing troubles/anxieties of this life! It is worth it to resolve: "How many years do I have to spend here, regardless of the sweet and sour, compared with the glory to be revealed in me in ETERNITY (Rom. 8:18)? I am relieved, even if all hell is let loose. I shall see my Lord."
This hope should therefore elicit in us the undying passion to unrepentantly purify ourselves in Christ's Word and blood (v. 3), so that we can keep living holy here for Him as His bride, in preparation for the glorious morning that would usher us into the consummation of His eternity with Him.

PRAYER POINTS
1. Lord, I thank You for the hope of eternity with You after this highly challenging life.
2. Holy Spirit, help me to always encourage myself with this hope of eternity with You, regardless of what I pass through in life.
3. Lord, help all of us to keep purifying ourselves in preparation to meet You anytime You choose to return for us.

TOPIC: THE MORE DEADLY ENEMY WITHIN

Read Psalms 55:12-14

MEMORISE: Immediately he went up to Jesus and said, "Greetings, Rabbi!" and kissed Him (Matthew 26:49)

EXPOSITION
The Bible rhetorically asks, 'Can two walk together unless they agree?' (Amos 3:3) Today, two are walking and working together, smiling with one another, even eating together, without agreeing together, i.e. without being one in spirit and mind. Sometimes, those who are against you are the closest, appearing friendly to you. No wonder the Bible clarifies, 'A man's enemies are the men of his own household' (Mic. 7:6b; cf. Matt. 10:36). We can therefore conveniently talk of enemies within. The sages have observed that it is the enemy within that opens door for those without. God save us!
Many great men and women who would not have been captured or subdued by demonic men and women have easily been captured with the help of those within (their wives, husbands, children, closest associates, etc.) who have offered to betray them, on most cases, unsuspectingly.
The story of Samson and Delilah clearly illustrates the possibility and reality of betrayals by those thought to have loved the betrayed (Judg. 16:1f). It is easier for those who have deep information about a person to either lift up or bring him/her down. Be careful of who is having your life's "computer's password." Avoid divulging sensitive information about yourself to people (1 Kgs 13:13-17). Only God can be trusted with two eyes closed. Be strong in the Lord, pray well, live holy, and be watchful, for a thief doesn't enter a city without an accomplice.
It is worrisome today that there are dangerous enemies of the church right within the fold and on the altar too; arising from envy, love for position, money, etc. There are deceit and false relationship everywhere. Ugly end awaits all those who pretend to be friends of Jesus, but are actually His enemies.
May You not die like Judas the betrayer. So, change today, and change for the better.

PRAYER POINTS
1. Lord, give me the grace of discernment to know 'who is who' wherever You put me.
2. O Lord, ward off every unfriendly friend around my family, my endeavours and me.
3. O Lord God of our fathers, turn the open and secret enemies of the Church, both within and without, against themselves, so that we will have peace to do Your work.

TOPIC: PICK UP THE PIECES

Read Revelation 3:1-3

MEMORISE: Be watchful, and strengthen the things which remain, that are ready to die, for I have not found your works perfect before God (Revelation 3:2)

EXPOSITION
In Jesus Christ's message to the Church in Sardis, He made them realise that they were dead, though they boasted of being alive (v. 1). He went further to tell them that some remedies could still be done to save the others who were about dying. This same message is reaching every user of this devotional booklet today.
If you are a poultry-keeper, you have a daily duty of thorough inspection of the fowls. You have to watch them carefully, how they behave. If you have once experienced losses due to infection that made some to die, you would want to guard against this. Others that are ready to follow suit would have to be cared for, to reduce loss. God is concerned about His Church on earth. This is why He constantly sends messages to us. What a caring Father! He rebukes us because we are His children.
No matter your present spiritual condition, the joy is that you can rise to become the desire of God's heart. Even if you have fallen into any type of sin, or worse still, you seem to be falling from grace to grass in terms of your relationship with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, losing hope or sinking deeper hopelessly into the mire of sin isn't the solution. Don't remain in that fallen state, or contemplating a su***de, as we commemorate World Su***de Prevention Day today (cf. Prov. 28:18).
David, the beloved of God fell into the sin of adultery. Though the effect of this sin so shattered and scattered things for him, it is on record that this man of God was able to pick up the pieces of his life and get back on the track.
It is not the time to count the losses and sorrow on them. Rather, it is time to pick up. Do not tarry in that devastating state, lest the tempter ties you down the more. King Saul fell, but unlike his successor, he failed to pick up the pieces. He continued to go down the drain in his relationship with God until he ended up ingloriously. This is not the plan of God, for you. Having rebuked and chastised you for the wrong done, He expects you to come back to Him for revival, revitalisation and resuscitation.
You can have the joy of your salvation back, if you listen and do what the Holy Spirit says to those Asian churches.

PRAYER POINTS
1. Lord, grant me the humility to face the fact of my sins, and return to You for forgiveness and restoration.
2. Lord, grant me total positive recovery of all I have lost to Satan and sin.
3. Pray for ex-convicts to find Jesus and be able to pick up pieces of their lives for better ones in Jesus' Christ.
