peace.
Today we reflect on the birth of the prince of peace: Jesus.
We are broken - that is the definition of being human. And we struggle with a lack of peace. In our homes, our relationships, even in our countries. Our bodies are broken. We struggle for health and the peace that it brings.
Or sometimes we compartmentalize our brokenness and mortality. We have peace simply because we ignore it. This is how I was until I was diagnosed with cancer. Death feels a long way off when you are healthy. But this isn’t peace. Because in a moment those things we bury or ignore can all change.
But thankfully God’s definition of peace is so much richer than ours. Peace in the Bible means wholeness and all things made right. It’s the word shalom.
When Isaiah spoke about Jesus being the prince of peace he meant this kind of peace. Someone who will make restored relationships possible, all physical needs met, and death no more.
He is not only the Prince of Peace but also the Mighty God who has the power to make all these things happen. I am learning that I can have peace because I know God WILL bring this shalom that he has promised one day. And so I hold on tightly.
