Christ Church Ayia Napa marked the Feast of the Ascension with a special Liturgy of the Word held at Ayia Thekla beach, directly in front of the picturesque chapel of St Thecla.

One of the most distinctive moments of the service was the use of a white balloon as a symbol of the Ascension. The balloon served as a visual reminder of Christ being lifted up and of the human longing for heaven. In keeping with environmental responsibility and care for creation, the balloon was not released into the sky but remained as a symbolic element within the service itself.

Following the service, the congregation continued the fellowship with a shared breakfast at one of the local restaurants nearby.

On Vocations Sunday, Christ Church Ayia Napa gathered for a Eucharist, giving thanks for God’s call in every life and praying for God’s guidance in the discernment of a vocation.

In his sermon, the Revd George reflected on the essential characteristics of the Good Shepherd — one who knows, guides, safeguards and lays down his life for the flock. Drawing on the vision of the early Church in Acts 2, he reminded of the core principles of a Christian community — fellowship, generosity, prayer and shared orientation to Jesus.

A member of Christ Church Ayia Napa, Akash Niamat, who participates in the ‘Fellowship of Vocation’, contributed to the Liturgy of the Word. The congregation was called to pray for him and his family as he goes through the discernment process and approaches the Selection conference.
