Today is the sixth day of the seventh lunar month, the birthday of Yu Huang San Tai Zi.
Yu Huang San Tai Zi has long been known among devotees for his strong spiritual insight, predictive abilities and healing blessings. When I was younger, I often sought his guidance, and I truly felt that he protected me and my family through many difficult moments. One of those moments happened during my army days.
I had difficulty managing a big bully in my camp. He often refused to perform his guard duties and would easily fly into a rage. I sought help from Yu Huang San Tai Zi and was advised to seek the help of the Tiger Deity. The Tiger Deity was known among devotees for bringing good people into our lives and helping to prevent conflicts, arguments and troubles caused by difficult people.
Something quite remarkable happened the very next day.
The same person came to speak with me and apologised for his outburst the day before.
Wasn't that amazing?
Another story that has stayed deeply in my heart involved a relative who fell into a coma. Despite receiving treatment, he remained unresponsive. It was an extremely urgent and worrying situation. My grandmother was so concerned that she rushed to the temple to seek help.
There was no trance session that day. Yet, the medium seemed to know that something was happening in my family. She waited at the entrance. When she saw us, she did not say anything. Instead, she sought guidance from Yu Huang San Tai Zi.
Through the medium, Yu Huang San Tai Zi told my grandmother to ask my relative's son to kneel down and sincerely seek help from the Jade Emperor. He was also told not to shed tears in front of the Jade Emperor.
He followed the instructions.
Yu Huang San Tai Zi then gave us a talisman to be burnt in water. We were told to use a xia liu, or promenade leaf, dip it into the holy water and spray the water onto my relative's face three times.
We were told that if he showed any movement, there was still hope. If there was no response, it would mean that his time might be near.
I followed my grandmother to the hospital, and we followed the instructions exactly.
After we did that, there was a small movement in his eyelid.
Two hours later, he woke up.
It was a deeply emotional and heart-wrenching moment. He had been in a coma for three days.
These are just two of the many experiences I have personally encountered. There are many more that I keep quietly in my heart. I am sure that many of the old devotees from those days would have even more stories to share.
Today, on his birthday, I sat quietly in my living room and reminisced about the old days. I thought about the times I spent with my grandmother at the temple. I thought about the people, the prayers and the many moments that shaped my younger years.
Things may have changed. People may have moved on. The temple may feel different from what I remember.
But deep in my heart, I can still feel the presence and blessings of Yu Huang San Tai Zi.
For all the protection, guidance and blessings I received throughout the years, I remain forever grateful.
Happy Birthday, Yu Huang San Tai Zi.
May your blessings continue to reach all those who seek them with a sincere heart.
