What is true repentance?
Genuine repentance is not merely saying words of sorrow or promising to change. True repentance is a sincere admission of my sins before God and a godly sorrow for having sinned against Him.
It is not simply a desire to do better, but a deep longing for a changed heart and a renewed spirit. This inward transformation produces visible fruit in a changed life.
True repentance includes:
Honestly acknowledging my sin before God
Feeling genuine sorrow for offending Him
A real desire to turn away from those sins
A longing for true transformation of the heart
At the center of true repentance is faith in Jesus Christ alone for forgiveness. We trust not in our own efforts, but in His grace to forgive our sins, change our desires, and give us a new heart.
By His grace, Christ enables us to turn from sin, follow Him, and walk in obedience.
True repentance therefore results in a transformed life that increasingly reflects Christ.
