It was a great service this Sunday 3rd May 2026

Topic: Waiting with hope and expectations.
Text: Acts 1:4-11
Preacher: Pastor Prince Mundi

There is a time to wait. We have become used to instant results and quick solutions but one thing we discover through scriptures is that God often answers through the time of waiting. In the Bible God gives promises, the people will wait for 70 years, 400 years before the promise will come to pass. God knows why and there is always a time of waiting between promise and manifestation, between prayer and answer. It is for you to discern when God is telling you to wait. There are times when we do intense spiritual activity yet God’s voice is silent and you begin to wonder what is happening.
One dangerous thing about waiting is if it is empty. You might turn to other sources. That is why when you are waiting, you should have hope and expectation.
In this context, hope is the confidence that God is faithful in his word and even when we have not seen evidence, God is working. Biblical hope is not wishful thinking, it is not crossing your fingers and saying that maybe God will do something. Biblical hope is saying that “God has spoken and I believe. And even if it is delaying, it will certainly happen. Romans 8:25. It is hope that helps you to keep trusting God even when everyone and everything around you says otherwise.
Expectation is the conviction that God can do things at anything. Even if it doesn’t happen, let your expectation remain in the hope that as you pray, God will do it. So go with more expectations and increase your fellowship and communion with Him.
In the text that we read, Jesus knew that His disciples will not be able to impact the world without empowerment. So He instructed them to wait for the coming of the Holy Spirit. And before the Holy Spirit manifested publicly, there was a moment of waiting and staying and seeking God. That is the same thing God is doing to us today. In our season of waiting, God is cutting off the things that should not be from God. We have to be discerning and know exactly which waiting you are doing because some waitings come as a result of disobedience.

1. Waiting is part of God’s process. Acts 1:4. God instructed them to wait for the promise to come. Jesus could have given them the Holy Spirit immediately but He instructed them to wait because it was part of the process. God cannot give you some things when you have not gone through that process. Gen 8:15-16. We cannot do without waiting as Christians because moving before God’s timing is dangerous. Waiting draws us closer to God and gives us a permanent relationship with Him. Romans 4:20. God gave Abraham a promise and he had to wait which stretched him and strengthened him. Joseph had mighty dreams about the future but the palace did not come immediately. He waited for God t bring that dream to pass. Never consider delay as punishment but as a process you are going through.
2. Hope gives strength while we are waiting.
3. Expectation positions us for divine visitation.
