Message: Self-Control

Without self-control, prayer becomes impossible. Proverbs 26:14.
One of the greatest weapons the devil uses against believers is laziness.

Laziness is the inability of the mind and spirit to control the body. Proverbs 18:19.
It destroys prayer life and cuts off communication with God. Matthew 26:40–41.

Laziness places a person in a state of lukewarmness. As believers, we are called to be hot and not cold. Revelation 3:15–16; 1 Corinthians 15:58.

There is always a reward for labour, but we must ask ourselves: What kind of labourers are we? 2 Timothy 2:3–6.
The Bible describes the Christian life as a fight that requires discipline and endurance.

The major characteristic of laziness is procrastination.
Procrastination often deceives a person into thinking they are not lazy.

Things to Note About Procrastination

1. Redeem Your Time — Ephesians 5:15–16
Time is one of the greatest commodities God has given to man, but laziness wastes time through procrastination.

Text: Jeremiah 51:20

A battle axe is a weapon in the hands of a warrior that is used to destroy the enemy, and in this case, the kingdom of darkness.

Conditions for Becoming a Battle Axe

1) Separation and Sanctification
Separation is the act of removing yourself from sinful influences and staying away from sin.
Sanctification means keeping yourself holy and separated from sin.

2) Preparation
Preparation refers to the process of making yourself ready to be used by God.

Message: SELF CONTROL

If you must be forceful in the Kingdom, you need to be a man or woman of self-control. For if you can build self-control, your journey in Christ will be easy, for without it there is nothing we can achieve in life, talk less of in Christ where we need to forcefully advance.

Causes of lack of self-control
1. Laziness is the weakness of the mind, the inability to let your mind control your flesh. laziness causes spiritual poverty: Proverbs 6:9-11, Proverbs 13:4, Proverbs 19:15.

NB: When you are lazy, there is a spiritual sleep that comes upon you like a spell.

Laziness causes you to lose your destiny, time, and vision. laziness is a waster of destiny and season: Proverbs 18:9.

When you are lazy, you become a brother to the destroyer, the devil. Ecclesiastes 10:18, Ephesians 5:14-16, Matthew 25:26-30, Hebrews 6:11-12.

Message: Laying Hold of the Kingdom of God by Force
Text: Matthew 11:12

You need to exercise spiritual violence in the Kingdom of God because Satan is your adversary. In order to resist the devil, you need to fight (1 Peter 5:8–9).

There is no stagnation in the Kingdom of God. You cannot stop growing, because if you stop growing, you will backslide.

In order to forcefully advance in the Kingdom, it is required that you (1 Peter 5:8–9):
1. Be self-controlled and alert.
Self-control is a fruit of the Holy Spirit. To be self-controlled means to have authority over your thoughts, words, and actions by allowing the Holy Spirit to rule over them (Romans 8:5; 1 Corinthians 9:27; Galatians 5:17).
To be alert is to be watchful and vigilant, because the slightest opportunity you give the devil, he will take hold of you (1 Corinthians 10:12; 2 Corinthians 11:14).
2. Resist the devil.
Since the devil is an opponent, he will always come against you to make sure you fall (James 4:7; 1 Corinthians 10:13).
3. Stand firm in faith.
It takes faith to remain standing (James 1:12; Romans 4:18; Ephesians 6:10; Ephesians 4:25).
4. Prayer.
Unless you pray, you can never fully resist temptation, for we receive power to stand firm when we pray.

A force, according to physics, can be defined as any push or pull acting on an object that can change its motion or shape.

Until your force is above the force of resistance, then you can advance.

Note: Force is applied because of resistance, which can either push you forward or pull you backward.

Some things that resist the advancement of the kingdom
1. Devil
If the devil cannot make you lose your salvation, then he will make you lose purpose.
1 Peter 5:8, Ephesians 6:11–12
Note: Not all your inability is because of the flesh, for there are demons.
2. Flesh
Galatians 6:17, Romans 7:18–19, Ephesians 6:12

How demons operate to resist the advancement of the kingdom

• Seduction and false doctrine
1 Timothy 4:1, James 1:1

• Causes unbelief
1 Corinthians 4:4, 2 Corinthians 3:8
Note: Being a believer is not a title but a profession.

• Planting evil thoughts
John 13:2, Acts 5:3

• Affliction

• Stirring up persecution
Revelation 2:10

• Influencing world systems against believers
Ephesians 2:2, James 4:7, Luke 10:19

NB: Submit to God’s word, draw near to God, for He lives in you. To draw near means to have an intimate relationship with God.

Prayer is terrestrial license for heavenly intervention by Dr. Myles Monroe.

NB: the reason why God needs our permission to intervene on earth is because in Genesis 1:26-27, God gave man dominion over the earth.

Types of prayers

1) Intercession: it is the art of praying on behalf of another person or a group of people.

Examples of People from scriptures who practiced this type of prayer
- Abraham. Genesis 18:20-33
- Moses. Numbers 14:13, Numbers 12:13, Ezekiel 22:30
2) Declaration and command. What is perculiar about this prayer is that it is brief.
Examples
- Joshua. Joshua 10:13
- Elijah. 1kings 17:1
- Apostle Paul. Acts 16:16
- Jesus. Luke 4:33-36
3) praise and worship
Psalms 22:3, 2 Chronicles 20:21-23, Acts 16:23-25, 2 Samuel 6:13-16,23
4) prayer of inquiry: this is a systematic investigation, search for knowledge to solve a doubt or a problem. 2 Chronicles 20:1-3, 1 Samuel 30:1
5) prayer of Agreement. Matthew 18:19, Esther 4:15
6) Thanksgiving. Ephesians 4:6-7
7) Prayer of request. 1 Samuel 1:9-28, Ephesians 1:17.

-You cannot intercede for men if you don't love them.

Message: The Power of Revelation

As a child of God, your victory is dependent on the revelation you have (Hosea 4:6; Ephesians 1:17).

The reason for backsliding in Christ is that people do not have a personal revelation of the person of Christ . The revelation of who you are, the person of Christ and the finished works of Christ is essential. If you do not have this revelation, you may be in church for years and still remain the same.

Revelation is not found on the surface; it is hidden and we are called upon to search until God shows us.

The Power of Revelation

The power of revelation is the transforming strength that comes when hidden truth is revealed.

Who is Qualified to Receive Revelation from God?
1. You must be born again (John 3:3).
2. You must seek God with all your heart (Jeremiah 29:12–14).
3. You must call on Him and show genuine interest in what you seek.
4. You must believe that whatever you ask from God, He is able to give you (James 1:5–7; Hebrews 11:6).

Biblical Examples of People Who Received Revelations and it changed circumstances.
1. Abraham (Genesis 18:17–22, Genesis 18:23-33)
2. Daniel (Daniel 9:2–3)
3. Nehemiah (Nehemiah 1:1–11)

Advantages of Revelation
• Clarity
• Faith
• Conviction
• Persistence

Note: Your prayers are effective according to the revelation you receive from God and to the extent you act upon what you receive.

Message: Engaging the Holy Spirit as a Helper

Note: Man does not have the capacity to serve God acceptably by himself. It takes God to serve God.

How the Holy Spirit helps us:
1. God is the one who finds us and saves us without our solicitation. Romans 5:6–8, Luke 19:10, Luke 25:4–5
2. The decision to serve God and also to carry on is from God. Philippians 2:12–13, Philippians 1:3–6
3. The conviction to abandon sin, repent, and follow Christ comes from the Holy Spirit. 2 Timothy 2:24–26

NB:
• Convincing brings men to church, while conviction brings men to Christ.
• No man can convict another man.

4. Once in Christ, spiritual capacity, stewardship, and service (labor) are achieved by the help of the Holy Spirit. 1 Corinthians 15:9–10, John 15:5, John 14:15–18

NB: The help of the Holy Spirit is forever. He will never leave you. Never let the devil make you think that by your strength you can serve God.

Speaking in tongues is the most proof of the Holy Spirit in one's life. When the Holy Spirit is the one giving utterance, there is conviction.
Scriptures: Acts 2 and 1 Corinthians 14.

What is prophecy ?
Prophecy is declaring the word of God with power that leads to repentance.
Prophecy is not for self edification but for the people. It is to edify the church
For speaking in tongues edifies oneself.

*What does speaking in tongues do for us?*
1. It is praying in the Holy Ghost :1 Corinthians 14:15
2. It builds your faith :
Jude 1:20
3. It permits you to pray all kinds of prayers : Ephesians 6:18
4. It makes you speak mysteries to God : 1 Corinthians 14:2 & 1 Corinthians 13:1

NB: When you introduce a prayer point in your understanding, the Holy Spirit places deeper understanding to it.
