God’s love has been misinterpreted today by those who are not in the Spirit. God’s love is dynamic and has different expressions in strength, protection, breakthrough, and even in discipline. God’s love is not only in blessings, but also in Punishment. If God loves you, He will discipline you, rebuke you, and even allow you to go through trials. We discipline our children because we want the best for them. How much more God, who is the Father of all spirits and flesh? When we go through challenges, it doesn’t mean God’s love is absent. James 1 tells us to “count it all joy” when trials come our way, because they build us in patience and perseverance. God loved His Son Jesus yet allowed Him to be tested in the wilderness. David, a man after God’s own heart, was still rebuked when he sinned. Job did no wrong, yet God permitted him to go through trials. This shows us that God’s love is deep and can look different than we expect.
God’s love is manifested in many ways.
First, God hides you when He loves you [Matthew 2:13]. He keeps you away from people and situations you’re not yet equipped to handle, forms you in secret, and later brings you out as a light [Isaiah 42:1-6].
Second, God’s love is seen through our conscience. When we feel guilty after wrongdoing and run back to God in repentance, that is His love drawing us back.
Third, when God loves you, He goes with you into battle [Deuteronomy 20:4]. Though challenges and trials come, the Lord fights for you and victory is assured. Because of His love, He protects those who acknowledge Him [Psalm 91:14], and we can rest assured that we are more than conquerors through Him who loves us [Romans 8:37].
Don’t compare God’s love or strive to be like others. Identify the area of God’s love in your life, acknowledge Him, and trust that He is still working on your behalf. Remember, what looks like delay, discipline, or battle may actually be God’s love at work. Everything has its season.
