DAY 13: STRAIGHTENED UP
“When Jesus saw her, he called her forward and said to her, ‘Woman, you are set free from your infirmity.’ Then he put his hands on her, and immediately she straightened up and praised God.” (Luke 13:12 to 13)
Some burdens do not only hurt. They bend you. They make you small. They train you to expect less. This woman had been crippled for eighteen years. Jesus said she was bound. Her condition was not only physical. It was limitation with a spiritual weight behind it.
Notice what Jesus did first. He called her forward. He did not heal her at a distance while she stayed hidden in the crowd. Many healings begin when God brings you out of hiding and out of shame.
Then Jesus spoke and said“You are set free.” The word came before the straightening. God often frees a person by truth first. Then the body and the mind follow.
Set free also means your life is no longer ruled by what kept you bound. It means the condition no longer defines your life. It means you can stand among people without apologizing for your existence.
Jesus put his hands on her. Immediately she straightened up. That is not only relief. That is dignity restored. A woman who could not stand among people now stood. She could lift her face again. She could worship without being folded by pain. Hallelujah!
This is what God wants for you. Not only to remove pain, but to restore your posture. Some people have been bent by grief, bent by rejection, bent by shame, bent by fear. Jesus is still calling people forward.
Today, respond to that call. Come forward in your heart. Let His word break what has been binding you. Let His touch restore what has been weakened in you. You were not made to live bent.
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, I have been bowed down in ways I cannot fully explain. Some of it is pain. Some of it is fear. Some of it is oppression. But I come forward to You today. Speak Your freeing word over my life. Put Your hand on me. Straighten what has been bent in my body and in my soul. Restore my dignity.. Amen.
