TOPIC: FORGIVENESS & LOVE
📖 Main Scripture: Colossians 3:13 (KJV)
> “Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye.”
---
INTRODUCTION
Forgiveness and love are two major foundations of the Christian life. A believer cannot truly walk with God while living in hatred, bitterness, unforgiveness, and malice.
Love is the nature of God, and forgiveness is the proof of spiritual maturity.
Many destinies are delayed today not because of witches or enemies, but because of unforgiveness, anger, and bitterness in the heart.
📖 1 John 4:8 (KJV)
> “He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.”
Jesus demonstrated love by forgiving even those who crucified Him. As believers, God expects us to love genuinely and forgive sincerely.
📖 Luke 23:34 (KJV)
> “Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do…”
Forgiveness is not weakness. Forgiveness is strength under control.
---
POINT 1: LOVE IS THE GREATEST COMMANDMENT
God commands every believer to walk in love.
📖 Matthew 22:37-39 (KJV)
> “Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart…
And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.”
Love is not only by words; love is shown through actions, patience, kindness, and compassion.
📖 1 Corinthians 13:4-5 (KJV)
> “Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not…
Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked…”
Lessons:
Love people genuinely
Avoid jealousy and hatred
Learn to care for others
Show mercy and compassion
---
POINT 2: FORGIVENESS IS A COMMAND, NOT AN OPTION
As believers, forgiveness is not something we choose when convenient. It is a command from God.
📖 Ephesians 4:31-32 (KJV)
> “Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger… be put away from you…
And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.”
When you refuse to forgive:
Bitterness enters your heart
Prayer becomes hindered
Spiritual growth is affected
📖 Mark 11:25 (KJV)
> “And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have ought against any…”
Lessons:
Forgive quickly
Do not keep offenses
Release people from your heart
Let God fight your battles

POINT 3: JESUS IS OUR PERFECT EXAMPLE OF LOVE & FORGIVENESS
Jesus loved sinners, healed the broken, and forgave those who hurt Him.
📖 Romans 5:8 (KJV)
> “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”
Even on the cross, Jesus forgave.
📖 Luke 23:34 (KJV)
> “Father, forgive them…”
Stephen also followed this example before his death.
📖 Acts 7:60 (KJV)
> “Lord, lay not this sin to their charge.”
Lessons:
True Christianity is seen in character
Forgiveness reflects Christ in us
Love conquers hatred
Spiritual maturity is shown through mercy
---
POINT 4: LOVE & FORGIVENESS BRING HEALING, UNITY, AND BLESSINGS
A heart full of love attracts God’s presence and blessings.
📖 Psalm 133:1-3 (KJV)
> “Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!”
Where love exists:
Families are restored
Churches grow
Prayers are answered
Peace reigns
📖 1 Peter 4:8 (KJV)
> “And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins.”
Lessons:
Unity brings divine blessings
Love heals relationships
Forgiveness brings peace
God blesses humble hearts
---
CONCLUSION
Forgiveness and love are not signs of weakness but signs of Christ living inside a believer.
You cannot claim to love God while hating people.
📖 1 John 4:20 (KJV)
> “If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar…”
As Christians, let us walk in love, forgive freely, and reflect the character of Jesus Christ.
