THE IDEAL CHURCH USHER

The church usher is the first person people meet when attending a church for the first time, thus, they can either make or mar the church in terms of retaining membership. What therefore should an ideal usher look like:

1. An ideal usher should be neatly dressed because a shabbily dressed usher sends a wrong message
2. The ideal usher should be full of smiles. First timers would easily be put off when accosted by a frowning usher
3. An ideal usher must be friendly in disposition. People coming to the church for the first time would be at home with a friendly usher
4. The ideal usher should be amiable and nice in relating with people and not difficult
5. An ideal usher should be proactive, that is, be able to foresee a problem and deal with it before it becomes obvious
6. The ideal usher should be smart and agile and not sluggish or dull
7. An Ideal usher should be patient and long-suffering. He or she should have the fortitude to overlook the excesses of others
8. The ideal usher should be respectful. A rude usher does the church much harm than good
9. An ideal usher should be kind and not wicked. For instance, in case of a wardrobe malfunction, the usher should lend a helping hand to the victim
10. The ideal usher should be sacrificial. Most times ushers are meant to continue working even after service
11. An ideal usher must be obedient to constituted authority. When the usher is asked to perform a task at the spur of the moment he or she should be ready to obey
12. The ideal usher should be physically fit and strong. A physically weak person may not be able to cope with the strenuous duties of an usher
13. An ideal usher should be trained and retrained to know and improve on his or her duties as a professional
14. The ideal usher should be available and present at her post at all times during worship service
15. An ideal usher should be ready to serve both young and old. The ushering job is purely service

final authority in matters of faith

P- Priesthood of all Believers

Every believer has the right to
approach God's presence without
a human intermediary

T- Two Ordinances

Baptists believe in just two
ordinances namely water baptism
by immersion and Lord's Supper

I- Individual Soul Competency

Every believer can through the
inspiration of the Holy Spirit, hear
from God and interprete scriptures

S- Saved and Baptised Membership

Only those who are saved and
have undergone water baptism
are bonafide members of a local
Baptist church

T- Two Offices

Only two offices are recognized in
the local Baptist church, the office
of the pastor and the diaconate

S- Separation of Church and State

Let the church be the church and
the state the state. None should
interfare in the others business

WHO IS AT FAULT

Sister Beatrice is a very beautiful and dedicated sister to the things of God. She is a spinster and two brothers sought her hand in marriage. The brothers were Bro Dave and Bro Peter.

Sister Beatrice confused at the double proposal sought the counsel of their pastor since they all attend the same church. The pastor asked both Brothers to keep praying while he sought God's face about the matter.

Since Bro Peter is wealthy and has been kind to the pastor, helping him out financially on several occassions, in order to reciprocate his kind gestures, the pastor told Sister Beatrice that Bro Peter was God's will for her.

Sister Beatrice believed the pastor and married Bro Peter only to find out he is a womaniser, a drunk and had a child outside wedlock. Whenever she threatens to tell the pastor, he beat her black and blue saying he would kill her. Sis Beatrice is now living in hell.
