? The Santiago Community Church also serves as a War Memorial Church, observing Remembrance Sunday since its days as the old St. Andrew’s Anglican Church.

Remembrance Day commemorates those who fell in service during both World Wars, fighting for the then British Empire.

Two plaques honour the Chilean men who left Santiago to fight on the battlefields of Europe in service of freedom under the British Legion flag, which is hung at the entrance of the church.

Ten Chilean soldiers were killed during the First World War, and 34 during the Second World War. Their names are inscribed on the wooden panelling in the chancel.

Remembrance Day has been observed annually since 1919 on 11 November, marking the Armistice that ended the First World War in 1918. Poppies are worn as a symbol of remembrance.

Remembrance Sunday falls on the second Sunday of November—8 November in 2026—when a special service is held.

Lest we forget those who fell in war, and may all wars in our troubled world come to an end.
