Dear Friends in Christ,

This Sunday is Pentecost, one of the most important feasts of the year as it is considered the birthday of the Church! Following the Ascension, the disciples waited in the Upper Room, feeling uncertain about how to fulfill Christ's command to preach to all nations. There in the Upper Room, the Holy Spirit arrived, and He ignited their hearts with God’s love and mercy and zeal to preach the Gospel, giving them the courage to begin their seemingly impossible mission. Every year on this feast, we ask the Lord for a new Pentecost that we might be filled with the same Spirit to keep proclaiming the Good News to the world.

I look forward to celebrating this wonderful feast with you this Sunday at our usual time and location: Saint George's College at 10:15AM in the indoor chapel.

Dear Friends in Christ,

We celebrate the Ascension of our Lord this Sunday, which is the moment that Jesus Christ returned to the bosom of His Father in heaven after His death and resurrection. Even though we no longer see Jesus on Earth, He continues to be present and to guide us with His loving gaze from the heights of heaven. For this reason, we celebrate this day, recognizing that we have a sure guide who will lead us home to the Father.

Dear Friends in Christ,

We continue our journey through the Easter season this Sunday, celebrating Christ’s victory over death and reflecting on His call to follow in His footsteps. We know that walking this path is not always easy. For this reason, the readings this week and next remind us that God has sent us His own Spirit to give us the strength and courage to live as Christ calls us. These scriptures prepare our hearts for the upcoming feast of Pentecost on May 24, which draws the Easter season to a close.

Dear Friends in Christ,

Hello and happy St. Joseph the Worker Day! St. Joseph the Worker Day is celebrated every year on May 1st in conjunction with Labor Day. The feast was established by Pope Pius XII in 1955 to remind us of the beauty, dignity, and importance of work within our Christian lives and, at the same time, to protect the rights of all those who labor, especially those who do not receive a just wage or labor under unjust conditions. What better patron of workers than St. Joseph whose labors sustained the life of Christ!

Thanks to Fr. Joe Owori, CSC, for celebrating Mass the last couple of weeks! I’m back from Rome, so I will be there to celebrate Mass this Sunday at the same time and same place as always: Saint George's College at 10:15AM in the indoor chapel.

Also, this Sunday is the first Sunday of the month, which means we will have our monthly social this Sunday. If you are able, please bring food and/or drink to share. I look forward to seeing everyone!

Dear Friends in Christ,

Hello from Rome! After some troubles with my flight on Sunday, I arrived safely to Rome just last night. But, it’s great to be here in the heart of the Church! This afternoon, we will go and celebrate Mass in St. Brigida, a chapel next to the Vatican that our founder, Blessed Basil Moreau, would use from time to time.

Fr. Joe Owori, CSC, will be with us again this week to celebrate Sunday Mass for the fourth week of Easter. Thanks to Fr. Joe for his generosity! We will celebrate Mass at the same time and same place as always: Saint George's College at 10:15AM in the indoor chapel.

I heard on Sunday that there was a professional rugby game at St. George’s College that stopped up traffic. Sorry about that! I had heard rumors that there would be a big rugby game at some point, but I did not realize it was going to be last Sunday. I don’t think that we will have the same problem this week.

Dear Friends in Christ,

One of our beloved Holy Cross religious will be with us this Sunday: Fr. Joe Owori, CSC, from Uganda. He is the director of Rosario en Familia here in Chile, which is our Holy Cross apostolate that goes throughout the country to give missions for spiritual renewal and to provide formation of families in the practice of the Catholic faith. Fr. Joe is a wonderful, faith-filled speaker, so it will be a blessing to have him this Sunday and the following. I will be in Rome for some meetings about religious vocations and formation in the Congregation of Holy Cross for the next two Sundays, but I look forward to seeing everyone on my return.

We will celebrate Mass at the same time and same place: Saint George's College at 10:15AM in the indoor chapel.

10/04/2026

Dear Friends in Christ,

There are two feasts in the Church so significant that their celebration lasts not just one day, but eight (an “octave”): Christmas and Easter. Both are followed by an entire liturgical season, which means we are still in the midst of the Easter celebration. So, once again, Happy Easter!

This coming Sunday, the final day of the Easter Octave, is Divine Mercy Sunday. On this day, we specifically recall the purpose of Jesus’ death and resurrection: that the sins of the world might be nailed forever to the Cross, allowing us to rise with Him to eternal life.

To mark this day, there is a special blessing known as a “plenary indulgence” for those who participate in the Sunday Liturgy and fulfill a few additional steps. While the term “indulgence” may sound unusual to modern ears, it simply refers to an outpouring of God’s abundant mercy.
The requirements to receive the Divine Mercy indulgence are:
* Confession: Receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation on Divine Mercy Sunday, shortly before, or within 20 days after. If you would like to go to confession before Mass, please let me know by email.
* Holy Communion: Receive Holy Communion on Divine Mercy Sunday.
* Prayers for the Pope: Pray for the intentions of the Holy Father (we will do this together during Mass).
* Specific Devotion: Participate in Divine Mercy devotions in a church or chapel. We will also do this together during our liturgy. Don’t worry, it will be brief!
* Detachment from Sin: Maintain a sincere desire to grow in holiness and turn away from sin.

Additionally, we have the joy of baptizing a baby from one of our own beloved community families!

We look forward to seeing you at the usual time and place: Saint George's College at 10:15AM in the indoor chapel.

02/04/2026

Dear Friends in Christ,

Greetings in this most holy week of the year as we celebrate the Paschal Mystery—that is, the passion, death, and resurrection of our Lord. Thursday begins the Sacred Triduum, which is considered a single liturgy that stretches over the course of three days to celebrate the Paschal Mystery:
· Holy Thursday: Mass of the Lord’s Supper, which celebrates the institution of the Eucharist and the Priesthood along with the washing of the feet.
· Holy Friday: Liturgy of the Lord’s Passion
· Saturday Evening (considered Sunday after sundown): The Easter Vigil, which celebrates the Resurrection of the Lord.

The Triduum is celebrated in Spanish at St. George’s in the chapel at the following times:
· Thursday: Mass of the Lord’s Supper at 7PM
· Friday: Liturgy of the Lord’s Passion and the Way of the Cross at 7PM
· Saturday: Easter Vigil at 7PM
· I’ve also attached the schedule of the Triduum in la Parroquia San Juan, Apostol, which is the home parish of our very own Jorge Rodriguez.

If there is interest in the community, we could see about offering the Sacred Triduum in English next year. However, this year, Easter Mass of the Lord's Resurrection will be offered as always at the usual time and place: at Saint George's College at 10:15AM in the indoor chapel. Please respond to this email if you would like to come before or after Mass for a confession.

BECAUSE IT WILL BE THE FIRST SUNDAY OF THE MONTH, we will have our monthly social this Easter Sunday. If you would like, please bring food or drinks to share.

Dear Friends in Christ,

This weekend, we celebrate Palm Sunday! On this day, we remember Jesus entering Jerusalem amidst a great crowd waving palm branches and shouting His praises. Little did they know that this King arrived not to conquer through military might, but to reconcile all to Himself by laying down His life. As we celebrate His arrival this Sunday, we recognize that while these sacred days lead us to the cross, His sacrifice ultimately paved the way for the resurrection and the gift of eternal life for all who receive Him as Lord.

Mass will be at the usual time and place: at Saint George's College at 10:15AM, but this time we will begin outside near the famous St. George’s gate (near the porter's house where we usually enter for Mass on Sunday). You are welcome to enter the chapel early to select your seats and pick up your missalette, and then we can gather outside to begin the entrance procession with palms. Palms will be provided! No need to buy them if there are people in the parking lot trying to sell them.

Dear Friends in Christ,

Happy feast of St. Joseph! This is a very special day for us religious from the Congregation of Holy Cross. Blessed Basil Moreau, our founder, consecrated our order to God especially through the hearts of Jesus, Mary, and Joseph. In a particular way, the brothers of Holy Cross are consecrated to St. Joseph in their role as educators in the faith at our schools and parishes. On this day, please pray for our religious congregation, especially that there might be a resurgence in vocations to the religious brotherhood in Holy Cross!

This Sunday will be the fifth Sunday of Lent, and we will read the gospel of the raising of Lazarus. The Gospel reminds us in this time of Lent that though we might face loss and hardship because of this fallen world and our own sin, the Lord desires to bring us back to fullness of life now and forever through the Easter Mysteries. I hope to see you there as we reflect on this wonderful Gospel!

Mass will be at the usual time and place: at Saint George's College at 10:15AM in the indoor chapel. Please respond to this email if you would like to come before or after Mass for a confession.

Dear Friends in Christ,

This Sunday is a special day called Laetare Sunday. The word literally means “rejoice” in Latin. We rejoice on this Sunday even as we journey through the “desert” of Lent, as we recognize that we will soon celebrate the source of our salvation: the passion, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Instead of wearing the usual purple for Lent, the priest wears the color of rose! This is one of only two times a year the priest can wear this festive color.

Mass will be at the usual time and place: at Saint George's College at 10:15AM in the indoor chapel. Please respond to this email if you would like to come before or after Mass for a confession.
