Unitarian Universalists of Basel

Unitarian Universalists of Basel Unitarian Universalist of Basel meet on the second and fourth Sundays of each month in Lohnhof 8, Basel. Please see www.uubasel.org for upcoming schedule.

Unitarian Universalism is a religious denomination characterized by support for a "free and responsible search for truth and meaning". Unitarian Universalists do not share a creed; rather, we are unified by our shared search for spiritual growth and by the understanding that an individual's theology is a result of that search and not obedience to an authoritarian requirement. Unitarian Universalis

ts draw on many different theological sources and have a wide range of beliefs and practices.

"Fremde, Etranger, Stranger,"
Behind what we share about what we believe lies another, simpler, but more profound unity.

This coming Sunday the Rev. Fred Wooden will lead Service on this theme. Fred is a late life author, having spent over forty years in six churches spread over five states. His travels, short stories, a memoir from following in the footsteps with those who marched from Selma to Montgomery, a year of writing haiku as a spiritual exercise, have all ripened into books, three of which are available on Amazon.

Fred has led many lives – composer, pastor, pilgrim, political candidate, newspaper columnist, radio host, father and spouse. He has explored Canada, Mexico, Peru, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Turkey, India, China, Japan, Israel and western Europe. Those who have read his travel accounts often say, “I feel like I am actually with you as you go.” http://fredwooden.com

We meet im Lohnhof 8 at 11AM on the 17th of May. Seervice will be followed by a shared lunch and discussion. Please bring food to share.

"Unfinished Faith - The Continuing Journey of Unitarian Universalism"

This Sunday, 15 February at 11AM, im Lohnhof 8, Basel

Matt Cook was present as an observer during his formative years, when the 7 Principles were adopted by the Unitarian Universalist Association. This coming Sunday he presents his message for UU in the current times.

"UUs have always struggled with the question of what it means to be a UU. This joyous struggle is difficult in part because one of our most basic traits is that we respect each other even when we don't agree on spiritual matters of faith. At the level of the organization, nobody is more right than anybody else -- we can each believe whatever we think is right, and we even support each other in our personal searches for truth!

The UUA goes through a process every few decades to try to find what it is that unites us. It turns out there is quite a lot! I will speak about what it has found, and how this has evolved over time."
