The Word of God is more important than food, and yet we sometimes treat it like it’s optional.
Imagine living as if food were optional. You wouldn’t.
Your body would begin to shut down. After just a few days, you’d feel the effects. Fatigue, confusion, and irritability would set in. Go longer, and the damage compounds.
By the third week without food, your body begins to consume itself. It pulls energy from your muscles and even your organs, trying to survive. But survival isn’t the same as living.
And yet, that’s exactly what some of us do spiritually.
We sometimes treat Scripture like it’s a side dish; as something to nibble on when it’s convenient, rather than the daily bread Jesus said it is.
But spiritual starvation is just as real as physical starvation. Without regular intake of God’s Word, our spiritual strength fades. Our discernment dulls. Our prayers weaken. Our convictions wobble. And before long, we’re just surviving, drifting through life spiritually malnourished, wondering why we feel powerless.
Jesus didn’t say, “Man shall not live by bread alone,” just to make a poetic point. He was making a divine comparison. Just as our bodies need food to thrive, our spirits need the Word to live.
Don’t starve your spirit. Feed it daily.
