Message: THE PASSOVER
by Pastor Antoine Dargan
Sunday, October 13th, 2024
Premise Scripture:
"...Purge (clean out) the old leaven that you may be fresh (new) dough, still uncontaminated [as you are], for Christ, our Passover [Lamb], has been sacrificed."
1 Corinthians 5:7 (AMPC)
Pastor Dargan:
"So that's why Christ came here to be sacrificed for us. Just like Jesus said, nobody took Jesus ' life He actually decided to lay it down for us. (John 10:18).
The Passover is so important, giving us an opportunity so that we can praise [recognize] God in our living.
So if we are praising God, we are being cleansed, because that's what Passover is. Passover is being cleansed, it's a spiritual cleansing. When Jesus was here on this Earth with His disciples, He knew one of them would betray Him. Jesus gave His disciples the bread saying, 'This is my body...' He broke it, and He gave it to His disciples. They ate it. He poured out the wine, saying, 'This is my blood. ' Again, and they drank of it. Why? So that they could be cleansed of all unrighteousness. That's the reason why Jesus was here. That's the reason Jesus came here.
Jesus said he could call 12 legions of angels to [come to His aid] (Matthew 26:58). Jesus ask His Father, 'If this cup can be taken from Me? Nevertheless, thy will be done' ( Matthew 26:39)
That's what we have to do sometimes y'all. We have to ask God, first of all to forgive us of our unrighteousness, because we all have unrighteousness stuff, all of us.
The bible says there's so much sin that none of us, not one, is right (Romans 3:23). That means everybody. And so, we have to ask God to forgive us of our sins, so that we can have a pure, heart; because that’s the reason why we come to church and pray, so that we can have a clean heart. That's what the Bible says that we're to have a clean heart. And, we're to live in rightstanding so that we can experience Jesus.
Matthew 26:26-28 AMPC
[26] Now as they were eating, Jesus took bread and, praising God, gave thanks and asked Him to bless it to their use, and when He had broken it, He gave it to the disciples and said, Take, eat; this is My body. [27] And He took a cup, and when He had given thanks, He gave it to them, saying, Drink of it, all of you; [28] For this is My blood of the new covenant, which [ratifies the agreement and] is being poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. [Exod. 24:6-8.]
So that's why it's important we take communion. [To remember and to celebrate that Jesus' blood has been poured out ratifying, securing the forgiveness of our sins]. Communion [as a reminder] cleanses us, and it says to God that we accept Him as our Lord and Savior, and that we commit ourselves to what He's saying to us. This [Communion] is a commitment; a commitment [saying] that we have committed to God, that this is who we are [Believers] and this is what we need [the Blood and Body Sacrifice of Jesus] in our lives to be cleansed of all unrighteousness, so that we can have eternal life with the Father. Because He said it. He said if you ask for forgiveness...[you'll be forgiven of your sins (1 John 1:9)].
The bible says, pray without ceasing (1 Thessalonians 5:17). To me that means praying all the time. No matter what you're going through, or what you’re dealing with, prayer is so important in our lives. Prayer, that when we wake up in the morning; we pray. We go throughout the day; we pray. Before we go to bed at night; we pray. We ask God to forgive us of our sins, because He is the only one who can forgive us. Nobody else can [forgive us of sin]. We have to ask God for righteousness in our lives. Then, go out in Joy everyday.
No matter what the circumstances is, we should have Joy every day. Living in the fruits of the spirit. That's what we should be doing y'all, everyday. Sometimes we might have a disagreement or spout with our loved ones. You may not even have a relationship with some of your relatives, but you still gotta have Joy. You still need peace in your heart and love, because love surpasses all things, because God is love. If we're walking in love, then no matter what they have said or done to you, you still can love them, no matter what. So that you can say to yourself, 'I've done my best,' to rectify whatever the situation was or is...
Ask God for help in this area of your life, because God said He would never leave us nor forsake us. So, if we're asking God to help us, don't you think He’s going to help us? So why not ask the leader of the universe? Why not ask the Creator [for help]? He says, 'Knock and the door shall be opened...' (Matthew 7:7-12). He didn't say, 'knock and it won't be opened, ' He said, 'Knock and it will be opened. " So we can stand on that. God is not a liar. (Numbers 23:19). He's not one to lie. So if He said He's going to do it, He's going to do it!
So, reach in your heart and ask, 'Lord, what am I doing today to improve my situation? What am I doing today to lift You up? What am I doing today to shine Your light in my heart so that the world can see Your light?' Because He says that, 'I am [He is] the Light of the world, (John 8:12). ' So why not we represent Jesus the way He wants us to represent Him? And not be ashamed of who Jesus is in your life?
Sometimes you will look at yourself and say, 'Ok, well, I don't have all the answers.' Well, it doesn’t matter whether or not you have the answers, because Jesus has got all the answers. There's nothing that Jesus 'don't know. So, why not go to Him with your it? [saying] 'Lord, I stumbled and I failed, and I need to be lifted up. ' And, God will lift you up. So that's why it's so important that we present the Passover, because the Passover is The Lamb who came to take the sins of the world.
That's what He did y'all, He came to take the sins of the world...We don't really know the people we're voting for. We have to develop a relationship with people. We have to [and we get to] develop a relationship with Jesus Christ.
Jesus came here so that we can have a relationship with Him [God].
And that's what we need to do, have a relationship with Jesus Christ...and represent what God is telling us to do. Because God talks to us, God's got something to say to us everyday of our lives. So, we've got to represent Him. Go to Mark 14:12-25. "
Mark 14:12-16 AMPC
[12] On the first day [of the Feast] of Unleavened Bread, when [as was customary] they killed the Passover lamb, [Jesus'] disciples said to Him, Where do You wish us to go [and] prepare the Passover [supper] for You to eat? [13] And He sent two of His disciples and said to them, Go into the city, and a man carrying an [earthen] jar or pitcher of water will meet you; follow him. [14] And whatever [house] he enters, say to the master of the house, The Teacher says: Where is My guest room, where I may eat the Passover [supper] with My disciples? [15] And he will [himself] show you a large upper room, furnished [with carpets and with dining couches properly spread] and ready; there prepare for us. [16] Then the disciples set out and came to the city and found [everything] just as He had told them; and they prepared the Passover....
"So, Jesus told them [the disciples] what they needed to do; and, they went and did it, they followed Jesus's instructions.
Just like when we walk in and carry out our lives, we got to follow somebody's instructions, so why not we follow Jesus Christ's instructions? Let's go to another [scripture]. Luke 22:7-20."
Luke 22:7-11 AMPC
[7] Then came the day of Unleavened Bread on which the Passover [lamb] had to be slain. [Exod. 12:18-20; Deut. 16:5-8.] [8] So Jesus sent Peter and John, saying, Go and prepare for us the Passover meal, that we may eat it. [9] They said to Him, Where do You want us to prepare [it]? [10] He said to them, Behold, when you have gone into the city, a man carrying an earthen jug or pitcher of water will meet you; follow him into the house which he enters, [11] And say to the master of the house, The Teacher asks you, Where is the guest room, where I may eat the Passover [meal] with My disciples?"
In conclusion, drawing a parallelism to the above-scripture, Pastor Dargan spoke of a tuscan butter bean stew dish [with sautéed kale] meal his wife made for her siblings' visit that week and they enjoyed it together, saying,
"That's what we have to do as believers. We have to take small things and make them Godly. So that we represent Jesus all the time, because He's our Savior. And that's what I love about The Lord. There's no stone that we have to go through that Jesus hasn't already gone through [and turned for us]. That's why I say, whatever you're dealing with, take it to God, put it on the throne of God's [grace], and God will deliver you from it. (Hebrews 4:16). And so that’s what's real important y'all, about what God is wanting to do in our lives. So, receive The Passover, Love one another, Lift One another up, and don't forget about Jesus Christ in your life. He wants to bless you and give you the things you desire, because He said, [paraphrasing] 'I'll give you the desires of your heart. ' (Psalm 37:4) Why not ask Him for your desires?
You know we all go through things, we all have struggles. I know I do. I know I've gone through a tremendous amount of things in my life. But I know by the Grace of God, I'm still here. I know there’s a reason why I'm still here. So, I thank God for deliverance. I thank God for the blessings upon my life. I thank God for my wife. I thank God for my friends; my family. I thank God for all those things that I take for granted sometimes. That's why I say to all of us, 'Give praise. Give thanks on a daily basis, continuously. In Jesus name we pray amen.'"
A prayer with communion (Sis. Redfear was rendered) and brother Quick gave a testimony of thanks, speaking of how God’s kept him.
