I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. Romans 12:1-2( kjv).

But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness,

This passage in Peter shows up nicely an idea that has been raised many times by Christ before, that the true value of a man is measured not by what he has, but by what he may do without. When all is burned up, when all possessions and vainglories are dissolved, when all but our body remains, who amongst us can truly claim to be able find comfort only in God? Who amongst us, could claim still, to be able to stand before the Lord, thankful and glad? The question thrown up by Peter is not a command to cast off our worldly goods and comfort, but rather it is a challenge to Christians, to challenge us to look within ourselves and ask who we truly are, and what is truly necessary in front of our Lord.

Lord I stand before you, cleansed of all possessions. Naked I pray Lord, that my soul still remains pure and worthy of your paradise. Show me strength in your mercy, and trust in your word as the only everlasting truth into the beyond. Have faith in me, as I continue to long for thee beyond all earthly effects, riches and property. I ask this in the name of our Lord who art in Heaven, Amen.

And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.Romans 12:2( kjv).

How can we know and obey the will of God for our lives? It will not happen if we are conformed to the ways of this world. But we must be transformed within, that that change may have its visible outward effects. And that transformation is by what? by the renewing of our minds, through conformity to the Word of God.

May I not be conformed to the pattern of this sinful world, Lord, but instead seek to be conformed to the patterns and teachings and commands found in your holy Word. Transform me through your Spirit, I pray, by renewing my mind unto godliness. Amen.

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.Hebrews 11:1(kjv).

Without faith it is impossible to please God, but through faith we obtain all the promises of God that we have hoped for. Faith believes without seeing, and is itself (if true saving faith) an evidence of God's working in us. This opening line of the "Hall of Faith" in Hebrews 11 gives us a taste of the mystery and the power of the faith of the saints of God.

O giver of faith, to you do we turn when we are in need of more faith. Grow that mustard-seed-sized faith into a full-grown, fruit-bearing, mature tree of faith. Let us exercise faith as did these examples of great faith in Hebrews 11. May we live by faith, walk by faith, and win the victory over sin, the Devil, the world, all trials, all temptations, and all roadblocks to our spiritual growth, by faith. Amen.

Yet many years didst thou forbear them, and testifiedst against them by thy spirit in thy prophets: yet would they not give ear: therefore gavest thou them into the hand of the people of the lands. Nehemiah:9:30(kjv).

God showed great forbearance toward Israel in warning them again and again, sending his prophets among them, and testifying of to them of their sins. Yet, Israel still rebelled and went into captivity. But (verse 31) God did not utterly destroy them, but out of mercy spared a remnant and brought them back to their land 70 years later.

You are a God of mercy, O Lord, but also a God who will punish iniquity. You pour out your wrath and justice on the lost and discipline your children when they go astray. To the lost, you are a Judge before whom they stand condemned; to us, you are a loving Father who corrects us when we stray or a watchful Shepherd whose rod and staff guides us and comforts us (Psalm 23). Amen.

He that oppresseth the poor reproacheth his Maker: but he that honoureth him hath mercy on the poor.Provwrbs 14:31(kjv).

One of the ways that the love of God is revealed in us is in our treatment of others. When we mistreat and oppress others, particularly the poor and vulnerable who have little means to resist oppression, we aren’t just ignoring God’s love, we are working against it. But when God’s love informs our actions, we see others as made in His image, and we treat them accordingly.

Father, You have placed Your image within each of us. Forgive me for the times that I have forgotten this truth as I looked on others as less than myself. Forgive me for mistreating others and for the times that I’ve contributed to their suffering. Please make me a conduit of Your love and mercy, and give me opportunities to share Your grace with the poor and needy people around me. In Jesus’ name, amen.

There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death. Romans 8:2( kjv).

Since the crucifixion, Christ in a sense eradicated death and sin. Dying on the cross, we learnt that his sacrifice washed our sins away, clearing the debt, not only for the past, but also the future. Whilst death had no lasting dominion over men thanks to the resurrection, to the afterlife all God's children can expect to enter into, rejoicing in the name Jesus.

God my Heavenly Father, heavy is the debt we owe to you and thy Son, who paid for our sin with his blood, and who gave us hope in salvation. Praise be in Christ who showed us your word made flesh, and the flesh made holy. In my faith I shall fear no death, for it only serves to bring me closer to your love and grace wherein I may rest in joy and peace, in your loving embrace. God looked down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were any that did understand, that did seek God.Psalm 53:2(kjv).

God is always searching for those of us who are ready to listen to his message. So often we may be too busy and wrapped up in our own lives and pressures that we may neglect to keep our eyes and hearts open to Him. In this way, we may be in danger of becoming like those who reject God outright, for we have turned our back on his message also. Be sure to realize that every day, what is most important is God, who wishes to always for his children to see him.

Lord of the Heaven and the Earth, hallowed be your name. Help me keep my heart open to receive your word and your light in my everyday life. Let me not be like those who ignore you truth, and shut you out of my world. Grant me the wisdom to know what is most important today and every day; my service and devotion to your message Lord, in your mercy I pray, Amen.
