Topic: Avoid the Serpent
Text: Genesis 3:1
By Pst. Dr. Simon Ogbonnaya
“Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the Lord God had made.” (Genesis 3:1)
The serpent represents the enemy of God and the enemy of mankind. Though it may appear harmless, it possesses deadly venom capable of bringing down even the strongest animal with just one bite. In the same way, the enemy works through subtlety, deception, and hidden attacks.
A serpent moves quietly and hides in dark places, waiting for the right moment to strike. It often attacks when its victim is careless, distracted, or unwatchful. That is why the Bible warns us:
“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.” (1 Peter 5:8)
The fall of mankind began when the serpent entered the Garden of Eden and deceived Adam and Eve. Lucifer, once an angel in heaven, rebelled against God and was cast down. After losing his place in heaven, he came to the earth to destroy the joy and fellowship man had with God. (Isaiah 14:12; Revelation 12:9)
The strategy of the enemy is always to find a gap, a moment of weakness, or distraction. When Moses went up the mountain to seek God, the people quickly fell into sin. (Exodus 32:1–4)
Jesus warned us about the mission of the enemy:
“The thief comes only to steal, kill and destroy.” (John 10:10)
Therefore believers must remain watchful, prayerful, and spiritually alert.
The serpent’s goal is to separate you from God, just as he did in Eden. But the Bible also gives us the key to victory:
“Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” (James 4:7)
When we remain in God’s presence and walk in obedience, the enemy cannot overcome us.
Prayer Declaration
Every serpent sent against our lives and destiny is destroyed in the name of Jesus. Because of the anointing of God upon us, every serpent that rises against us shall fall.
Conclusion
The serpent has failed, and his mission is to make others fail with him. Do not allow the enemy to separate you from the love of God. Stay vigilant, remain in God’s presence, and resist the devil.
