Today, Pope Leo invites the world to pray with him for the care of water: a sacred element that "quenches thirst, nourishes the earth, and heals wounds." The Holy Father calls upon each of us to safeguard these vital waters for the benefit of all humanity.
This profound sense of thanksgiving for the Creator and the gift of water was recently manifested at the Deline Spiritual Gathering, with a heartfelt request to Bishop Jon and Bishop Mark to have the lake ‘blessed and dedicated’ to God through the celebration of the Holy Mass upon its waters. The Deline Spiritual Gathering focuses on honouring and reflecting on the wisdom shared by the four Deline prophets, serving as a beautiful occasion for Elders and youth to express their shared devotion to the water, the land, and the prophets' teachings.
Let us unite with the Holy Father in his prayer: “May our care for water be a sign of love for the Creator and a commitment to the lives of the poor, educating new generations to value and protect the Earth’s resources.”

Happy Feast Day of the Assumption of Mary.

The Assumption reminds us of Mary’s life of humility, faith, and complete trust in God. Her journey teaches us to remain faithful and hopeful, even in times of uncertainty and trials. May Mary’s example inspire us to live with deeper faith, love, and trust in God.

Over the past week, Bishop Mark & Bishop Jon led construction projects at Trappers Lake Retreat Centre. Bishop Mark drove in from Saskatoon with a volunteer crew: Ian Lam (Saskatoon), Hue Le (Vancouver), and Jean Paul Lefebrve (Whitehorse). After this, the group heads to the Délı̨nę ʔehtsə́ó Dzęnę́ Spiritual Gathering, from August 14 to August 19. All-day rain and wind could not shake the two bishops and the crew. (plus Bishop Denis supervising)

Like a bishop's vision, they hold fast, anchored in Scripture and unyielding to the elements. Bishop Mark gave a beautiful homily at Mass on the boundless, unexpected abundance of God’s fatherly love, beautifully paired with singing from the children's choir. We are thankful when former bishops come back to MFS and share their gifts with us!

Today, we give thanks for the gift of your life and your 77 incredible years. You have been God’s light to so many people, communities, and parishes throughout your ministry.

Your steady pastoral care, kindness, tireless energy, and ongoing support over the years are a living example of God’s love for all of us. Your dedication to lifting up those in need has touched more lives than you may ever know.

As we celebrate you today, we also ask for God’s richest blessings upon your parents, your family, and everyone whose heart has been moved by your grace and service. May this year bring you the same peace, joy, and comfort that you so generously give to others every day. We love you, Father Mick!

Happy Feast Day! Today, on the third Sunday of July, Redemptorists and lay mission partners around the world celebrate the Solemnity of the Most Holy Redeemer—a special day to give thanks for the vocation to serve Jesus Christ in the great work of Redemption. Redemptorists Bishop Jon & Fr. Bill are at the Lac St. Anne Pilgrimage. Fr. Mick is providing vital ministry this week to evacuees, the sick, and the dying, and celebrating Mass. We are blessed to have them faithfully ministering and serving as a source of God's love in our northern communities.

Wishing all Redemptorists and partners around the world the blessing of plentiful redemption! ✝️❤️

Celebrating Sr. Maggie Beaudette’s July 2nd, 60th Jubilee!
Please join us in sending a congratulations to Sr. Maggie Beaudette marking 60 years of religious life as a Sister of St. Joseph (since July 2, 1966). A joyful celebration was recently held in her honour in Ontario.

Sr. Maggie’s life of prayer and service is a profound example of holiness found in everyday fidelity. Her legacy in the North perfectly epitomizes her order’s mission of inclusive love, environmental stewardship, and uniting "neighbour with neighbour, neighbour with God."

For six decades, she has dedicated herself to caring for the vulnerable and helping others learn, heal, and grow. Her incredible legacy of leadership includes deeply impactful service to the community of Hay River—where she recycled goods to fund musical instruments—as well as her dedicated work with Our Lady of the Assumption Parish and the NWT CWL. She has enriched countless lives by leading compassion retreats for Indigenous women, publishing insightful spiritual articles for dioceses across Canada and giving selflessly in so many other ways.

Mahsi Cho, Sr. Maggie, for your incredible heart, joy of God, and lifetime of dedicated service! We love you.

Yesterday, June 21st, we marked Indigenous Peoples Day, celebrating the rich cultures, languages, and traditions of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit Peoples. We honour the strength and resilience of Indigenous communities and reaffirm our commitment as the Diocese of Mackenzie Fort-Smith to truth and reconciliation, to walk along side this journey of hope.

These photos capture the TRC Call to Action # 82 consecration ceremony, held a few weeks ago for the future NWT Residential School Monument. Led by the Survivor Circle, the ceremony marked an important step in honouring Survivors and remembering the children who never returned home. At the heart of the monument is a naturally weathered, culturally grandfather rock selected from the site of the former Fort Providence Residential School. May the Creator continue to guide healing, remembrance, and reconciliation for all.
